🇫🇷 French President Emmanuel Macron says authorities will ban protests not organized by trade unions “wherever we can,” as his government moves to prevent a repeat of last weekend’s riots, the Financial Times reports.

Union-led marches will be permitted Saturday, but authorities have announced sweeping bans in major cities, including Marseille, Lyon and Nice.

The crackdown follows weeks of student-led protests over underfunded schools that have since grown into a broader movement against the rising cost of living and Macron’s government. Last Saturday, some 3,000 stores were looted and 2,300 people arrested.

The restrictions come as Macron faces growing opposition to spending cuts and a deepening crisis in France’s bond markets.

🇮🇶 The last U.S. forces are scheduled to leave their bases in Iraq on Wednesday, ending a presence in the country for over 23 years that began with the 2003 invasion. The withdrawal was agreed to in 2024 under the Biden administration and continues to be carried out by the Trump administration.

A commander in the Islamic Resistance in Iraq, Abu Mojtaba al-Yasiri, told Reuters the U.S. withdrawal was a “a historic victory for the Iraqi Islamic resistance groups.” He said, “On September 30, we will celebrate the turning of a black page ⁠in Iraq’s history and the failure of the occupation to impose its will on our country.”

Seven of the 18 U.S. service members listed as killed in the region in the U.S. war against Iran this year, were killed in Iraq.

39 years ago today, Palestinian artist Naji Al-Ali was assassinated by Mossad in London.

Naji was born in 1938 in the Palestinian village of Al-Shajara, between Tiberias and Nazareth and one of the more than 531 towns and villages destroyed by jews during the Nakba.

At the age of 10, he was expelled from his homeland to Lebanon in 1948.

Naji used to say that little Handala—his most famous cartoon— was a symbol of the Palestinian people and, more personally, of his stolen childhood and aborted youth.

🇫🇷🇮🇱 France’s foreign disinformation watchdog says it suspects Israeli influence firm BlackCore of carrying out digital interference operations not only in France’s March local elections, but also in New York City’s 2025 mayoral race and elections in Scotland, as well as in Angola and Togo.

French authorities previously linked BlackCore to an online smear campaign targeting three pro-Palestine candidates from the France Unbowed (LFI) party. Officials now say their investigation indicates the group deployed similar online influence operations in multiple countries.

France has asked Israel for explanations and assistance in determining who may have been behind the alleged campaign. Reuters reports it remains unclear who directed the alleged interference.

⚡️ Drop Site News has published for the first time the full Cable I-0678 — the classified Pakistani diplomatic telegram dated March 7, 2022, that Imran Khan has cited as evidence of a U.S.-backed conspiracy to remove him from power.

The cable, sent from Pakistan’s ambassador in Washington to the Foreign Secretary in Islamabad, documents a luncheon meeting between Ambassador Asad Majeed Khan and U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asia Donald Lu.

According to the cable, Lu told the ambassador that Washington’s grievances with Khan’s government could be set aside if Khan were removed through a no-confidence vote. “I think if the no confidence vote against the Prime Minister succeeds, all will be forgiven in Washington because the Russia visit is being looked at as a decision by the Prime Minister,” Lu said, per the cable.

“Otherwise, I think it will be tough going ahead.”

In his own assessment, the ambassador wrote that Lu “could not have conveyed such a strong demarche without the express approval of the White House” and had “spoken out of turn on Pakistan’s internal political process.”

The cable was marked Secret, No Circulation, and distributed to Pakistan’s Secretary to the Prime Minister, Foreign Secretary, Chief of Army Staff, Director General of the ISI, and the Director of the SSP Section.

Khan was removed via no-confidence vote on April 9, 2022, six weeks after the meeting. He has been imprisoned since 2023, and has been held in solitary confinement since last year.
