@TrevDon We lost the artistic striving in our lives, the "frivolous" and the "useless", and replaced it with strict adherence to utilitarianism. Who cares what it looks like if it works as-is? Beauty is excess. Elegance is unnecessary. Inspiring is antithetical to existence.
@TrevDon all but Weird Science. wish I had never seen Some Kind of Wonderful [at college at time, months of hype at theater... for that? more like Some Kind of Terrible. Sorry-ish if that's your fave movie]
@amuse $1.58B is payout over 20 years (or whatever). Current value is amount invested to produce that income over the period. Cash option provides the upfront amount only. Then you're taxed on the amount you take, whether lump sum or over time (taxed yearly).
@TrevDon 58 is correct BECAUSE of PEMDAS. In lieu of any other grouping, ÷ and × performed L-R (same for +/- at their time). ÷ only applies to next item; so × by inverse to simplify, and rewriting:
6² × ½ × 3 + 4
= ((36 × ½) × 3) + 4
= (18 × 3) + 4
= 54 + 4 = 58.
