This thread is ridiculous. Not every therapist is going to be a fit for every client- That doesn’t mean they’re a shit therapist. Are there shitty therapists out there? Most definitely. But this thread fails to recognize there are tons of different EVIDENCE-BASED modalities.
Just tried my seventh therapist. During the 15 minute consult, I told her I was looking for someone who didn't make the session about themselves. She promised she would never do that.
First session, she's offended when I ask her not to talk about herself. I had to report this.
@liljujulove@jewstein3000 Yes- it is normal to shop around for a therapist that fits your needs. It’s not normal for to assume the ones that don’t are just awful therapists.
@losernat9@jewstein3000 I have to disagree that we have to cater to the clients preferences. Some therapists styles aren’t a fit for some clients, & that’s okay. I’m not going to change my style for a client. If they express a preference that doesn’t align w/ how I operate, I refer to a better fit.
@AndieBell333@theashleyray It really depends on the modality they use. Some therapies are definitely more relational. Should there still be boundaries? 100%. But not all therapies are blank slate sounding boards.
@lottemunsterttv@jewstein3000 You’re totally right- it is absolutely an okay boundary. I think most people are dragging her for how she’s approaching it, not the boundary itself.
@madnomanattic So just curious- you accused me of “bullying,” but you don’t see your comments as such? 🤔
Show me where I called you names or attacked you…
I’ll wait!
@Sarah_Colero@jewstein3000 I hate to break it to yall, but this report is going no where. All it did was show the therapist wasn’t a good fit for this client. The fact there is a report isn’t even going to make it back to the therapist lol
