Just for no particular reason...
BIRDS OF PREY is one of the very best DC/Marvel comic book movies of the 2010s. I get why it tanked (coming off a much-seen but mostly disliked SUICIDE SQUAD, an R-rating, a title that was too niche, etc.), but it still rocks.
Mary Elizabeth Winstead is deadpan hilarious as The Huntress, playing a truly traumatized anti-hero like she’s a character in THE TICK. The picture features, with at least some help from Chad Stahelski, some of the best *action sequences* from any Marvel/DC flick, period.
Offhand, it’s also maybe (?) the last time that a Marvel/DC film that was appropriating a sub-genre was better than the most recent genuine articles (WINTER SOLDIER > JACK RYAN SHADOW RECRUIT, BOP > THE GENTLEMAN, natch).
