@alt_ccc At the end of the day, I am a liberal/socialist internationalist, and these suckers who want isolation disgust me. The Soviets were wrong, but effective in spreading their revolution. America has an obligation to do the same with democracy, whether free market or not.

@alt_ccc Hmmm, well honestly, I think you have to get influence before concessions. To draw on a parallel, it twas a shame imo we did not recognize Ho Chi Minh in 1945 despite stop the spread of communism good idea. We’d have more leverage as we trade to extract liberalism gradually.

@alt_ccc Definitely get your point. Also prefer not so much a sanction approach as much as a “big stick” approach in the Western Hemisphere. Foreign aid pressure, which is why a Cuban thaw is so important imo. Carrot and a stick I think Cuba and El Salvador can work, Venezuela-no.

@alt_ccc Social democracy or a capitalist economy friendlier to us and better for Cubans is best achieved by lifting the sanctions. Cuba is bad, but the overdemonization of Cuba compared to the Saudis let’s say I think is why I feel some sympathy to Omar’s positions more generally…
