MISSING 17-YEAR-OLD IN BETHLEHEM FS:

Police are appealing for help to locate 17-year-old Kabelo Junior Motlokoa, who went missing on Saturday after leaving home to play football and never returned.

He was last seen wearing a brown tracksuit top, blue tracksuit trousers with white stripes and black slippers.

Anyone with information should contact Bethlehem Detective Captain Nel on 082 550 4599, Crime Stop on 08600 10111, or report anonymously via the MySAPS App.

UKZN graduation photographer, Nkosikhona “Nkocy” Gcabashe, has stood behind the lens, capturing the emotion and pride of graduates as they crossed the stage to receive their qualifications. On Thursday, the cameras turned towards the 26-year-old, who proudly walked across the stage to graduate with a BSc in Civil Engineering.

The moment marked the culmination of a journey blending academics, creativity and entrepreneurship. While pursuing his studies, he built a name for himself as a maskandi guitarist, a self-taught artist, and a photographer.

Popularly known as Nkocy to his friends and his more than 100 000 social media followers, Gcabashe describes his years at UKZN as a period of exploration and self-discovery. 

Although he played the guitar before arriving at university, his talent gained during his student years led to collaborations with artists such as Mshiniwemali, Njoko, Mketule and Thandazani. He contributed guitar work to Njoko’s "Ulisela" and Mketule’s "Abesemzini," songs that have attracted millions of YouTube views. He then appeared on Umbuso Wamaciko Podcast and the SABC 1 television programme Ushuni Womhlaba, where he played the guitar for the show’s top 10 contestants.

Music was only one part of his creative journey. During his studies, he discovered a talent for visual art and taught himself through YouTube tutorials. However, the demands became difficult to balance alongside his studies, motivating him to explore photography.

In 2022, after buying a second-hand phone, he began photographing iconic UKZN landmarks. His striking images soon caught the University’s attention, and he was roped in as a freelance photographer. The opportunity exposed him to major institutional events while earning an income to support his studies. 

Today, Gcabashe runs his own photography business but says UKZN graduations remain especially meaningful to him. Gcabashe is preparing to enter the professional world while continuing to nurture his creative passions.
