I am fighting hard for real and effective regulation of Big-Tech’s social media platforms and the harms that they can cause.
We need a systems based approach that holds the Tech Giants accountable for the algorithms that drive their platforms, expose people to harmful content, disseminate misinformation, and profit from outrage and conflict.
The government’s planned 16 year-old age ban for social media platforms doesn’t do any of that.
It’s why I provided my own Private Members’ Bill to parliament to deal with Big-Tech’s algorithms.
And it’s why I couldn’t support Labor’s Social Media legislation as it stands.
