Day before yesterday, I was reading about Satyendra Dubey and Manjunath Shanmugam who were killed for their honesty. Later I read that many FIRs are launched against people who were writing on FSSAI.

Large systems, especially government machinery, often become like elephants. They are slow and hard to change. They move at their own pace. They promote Yes Men. They hate feedback and see that as disobedience.

As these systems grow bigger, their purpose change from a goal to serve or improve things turns into a need to protect power and position. In such setups, merit, honesty and transparency are seen as threats.

People who simply agree with the top leadership are preferred over those who question or think independently. It becomes safer to be average and compliant than to be capable and honest. The system rewards loyalty, even when it is blind loyalty.

This is where honest people suffer the most. Whether it’s government, corporates, or other institutions, people who try to do the right thing often face the hardest consequences. Speaking up against wrong practices is seen as disloyalty. They may be ignored, sidelined, or blocked from growth. On the surface, they might still get appreciation, but internally they are treated as outsiders or even threats.
