A woman looks out to sea. Her husband -at their wedding, a Methodist Bush voter-is in the family room below, posting about how Nolan’s judeo-Christian vision has attacked the very entrails of the West, which must return to the Olympians. “Truly,” she says, “I am an Overton Widow”
@AHomelyHouse Not the northernmost - that’s the Apostle Islands off the WI shoreline of Lake Superior. But yes, Washington Island and the stavkirke are beautiful!
I’ve lived in the US and in Europe. Here’s the truth:
1. Life is better with AC. It’s not up for debate.
2. Free refills are a gift. Seriously.
3. And ice in your Coke. Lots of it.
4. The food is fresher and more delicious in Europe. At least the fruits and vegetables in my part of Europe. And it isn’t close.
5. Life is better when you don’t have a waitress offering to bring you your check every 5 minutes. 2 hour dinners are a gift.
6. Americans spend too much time in their cars. I know why, but spending a huge chunk of your life looking out of a windshield stinks.
7. The churches in Europe are stunning. But they don’t seem to do much in them besides look at the architecture and adornments.
8. The drive-thru is a supremely American thing. You can do almost anything from your car window.
9. It’s true, ranch is delicious. So is Texas BBQ. And Chick-fil-A. Just trust me on this.
10. Coffee is meant to be sipped with friends, not gulped as you hustle to your next appointment.
I’m glad the world is experiencing America through the eyes of people instead of media. I hope most Americans will take the opportunity to return the favor someday.
