“Simplicity is a great virtue but it requires hard work to achieve it and education to appreciate it. And to make matters worse: complexity sells better.”
— Edsger Dijkstra
Happy birthday ChatGPT!
One year ago we released what we intended to be a “low-key research preview” expecting that the real moment of excitement would be GPT-4 launch.
Became all-hands-on-deck scaling effort—GPU efficiency, db, even auth.
Thank you everyone for your passion!
@notallatlgirls @bballandhistory@sergeyma@bryhoyt@paulg @bukcos It was chattel slavery, they were property and sometimes even taxed. You might mean hereditary? It was that too, the children of two slaves was a slave. But this didn’t matter so much as the majority were female and wisely married free men.
@bballandhistory @notallatlgirls @sergeyma@bryhoyt@paulg @bukcos You should read the Wikipedia article posted above. Literally every single one of them walked to Crimea and went through a slave market, the conditions of which I quote a description of.
@bballandhistory @notallatlgirls @sergeyma@bryhoyt@paulg @bukcos Actually they were castrated, mutilated, worked in chains, slept in prisons and fed rotten meat. That’s if they weren’t killed first, or died walking to Crimea.
@lanadenina@patrickevan Do you have the full set of 8 pictures required by Remini? It would make for a good real-world example of AI getting things wrong for people.
@maxdubler Bad example because selling handbags requires renting a store or a warehouse and if you fail to sell and handbags in July and August that money is gone forever.
Likewise when a landlord fails to rent a property, they still own it.
