Harriet Harman is the very apotheosis of the sinister HR lady. The disapproving glances, the tut-tutting to her posh friends, the passive-aggressive threats, the teacher’s pet snitching on the naughty kids, the head prefect’s icy glare, the preening self-righteousness - it’s all there.

It’s hardly surprising that this very person masterminded one of the most disastrous pieces of Labour-era legislation: the Equality Act. A classic pig-in-a-poke, it appeared compassionate on the surface but, in practice, unleashed a legion of mini-Harmans to enforce moralistic progressivism with all the subtlety of a sledgehammer.

@ianpacemain As someone with feet in both worlds, I get this quote, but it’s reducing metrics to irrelevant parameters. Some jazz tunes have 3 chords.. Moreover, in the context of the piece, it muddles an important question: does one choose their artistic path on the basis of market foreces?
