Maybe I'm just not far enough in the setup process?
But why would you make the end user jump through hoops to determine if a device has basic functionality?
The light is pretty clearly on, but nobody's home for rectangular #Dishy.
Since on some level #ElonCouldFixThis (if he used his own gear), I'm gonna boost this on his network.
The reason https://t.co/AiO4H2fEEB doesn't work anymore is because @Starlink isn't (currently) doing anything clever to present a secure page there.
Why not do HTTPS?

Doing a full hardware reset before calling sales about why account activation isn't working.
Previously, "https://t.co/AiO4H2gcu9" would tell whether or not each piece of actual hardware was functioning, but that's not showing up anymore.
Debugging without feedback stinks.

Bypass mode hasn't produced meaningful results.
Despite getting a nice confirmation message that bypass mode was enabled, after a hardware reboot there's no IP address getting assigned to other devices physically connected to the box.

We're at 33% with estimated 2 hours left so I'm going to see if anything changes when I reset the hardware again and select passthrough mode.
Just looking for where I can plug in my digits for a month of high bandwidth network access. There's gotta be something in here, right?

This ~300 MB source code download will take me another 90 minutes on a cell connection.
This could be nearly instant, but accounting and sales aren't open until after the holiday weekend, so I'm just mildly salty that we can do rocket science but not self-help account resets.

Mad respect for rockets.
I'm explicitly criticizing the consumer-facing software interfaces aspect of this. Obviously Starlink works once your account is set up properly.

This part isn't rocket surgery.
The customer-facing interface interactions are what make or break this in the long run, and the orbital infrastructure investment should be long term, right?
If we're spending the carbon footprint for this, we should be further than next quarter.

And like, this part of the interface isn't rocket surgery!
Mad props to the engineering wizards who put these glorious monstrosities into the sky to make it all work!
The @SpaceX engineers clearly didn't make this decision lightly, and I'm riffing on the paint job.

And I get that there's a security aspect of this. They can't have someone snagging these out of the mail and be able to activate it.
But again, shipped to my address. We never needed more than use the month of pre-paid time that came with it. Six months shouldn't disable it.

But even the account page that used to be there is gone. The web portal is minimalist to the point of no longer existing. Or at least to casual poking, and I'd want Elon to pay me if I'm doing more engineering than that on his product.
I just want to pay the thing to connect!

Keep in mind, I want to use this stuff. This is hardware that was shipped to my address. Last year.
In this day of tracking literally everything, why can't my Starlink know that it hasn't moved and let me set up an account based on that?

I can see maybe there being a way to do it with the app so the web interface just gets cut. But I literally can't download the app.
I do get a message saying "you're connected to Starlink" when clearly, I am not. Nothing else loads.
(posting via my neighbor's cell router, btw)

So, I've got this $4k paperweight, right? Used to be, I could at least tinker with it a bit, and there was an account interface. But Starlink seems to be the latest casualty of enshittification, because I can't even get access to the /debug or /statistics pages from the router.

Hey @Starlink last year I got your $4k business class hardware as part of a severance package, but when I tried to turn it on again today it won't let me activate or submit a support ticket because it's supposedly linked to an existing account.
What're my options?

Talk about burnout with your co-workers.
Bring it up with family and friends.
Normalizing awareness of these signs saves lives.
If not yours, that of someone you know, and never knew was struggling alone.
Wondering if your story about mental health makes a tangible difference?
I'm alive today because @howardtayler talked about what depression looks like from the inside, which gave me tools I needed to get help.
