One thing that has been lingering on my mind in this cycle is that the issuance of infrastructure and applications has never been so easy. But ironically, the majority of these applications and infrastructure fail to capture any network effect.
Why is that? What are we missing here?
Over the past three months, while working on developing 2184, I’ve spent a lot of time contemplating where we should land next and why and how Web3 consumer products and games should evolve. Through observing user behavior in @gasheroofficial over the past year, I’ve learned one thing: a Web3 game is not just the game itself but also encompasses all the meta-games around it.
💡 For example, users enjoy using @stepnofficial, but they also like to bet on who can complete a 10-day streak, with the losers paying the rest of the group who successfully finish the streak.
💡 Players who don’t qualify for the Semi-finals of the Gas War still want to bet on who will win and are willing to wager with each other on the results.
💡 Another idea could involve a group of community members crowd-feeding a cyber-tamagotchi on a platform, with the final feeder who grows the tamagotchi to 100% winning a significant portion of the prize pool.
These meta-games, which can be initiated by community members or independent developers around core products like STEPN, STEPN GO, and Gas Hero, are essential for maintaining a vibrant community. This leads to a natural question: where should these meta-games originate?
An open social platform empowered by self-sovereign data and interoperable modules is the answer.
👀 Because it will allow all kinds of independent developers to create these “meta-games” (or mini-apps) around our core products—without requiring our permission.
👀 Because these “meta-games” can be composable with one another and all use FSLID for login.
👀 Because a social graph and network can amplify these interactions and transactions, enabling better community engagement and long-term incentivization.
The future is right before us; it’s just a matter of whether we choose to see it or not.
