Somaliland recognition is one of the best things to happen in Africa in a long time, a powerful step for self determination, stability, and real progress.
The Government of the Republic of #Somaliland affirms its principled alignment with the #UnitedStates in support of calibrated international action to uphold constitutional order and the rule of law in #Venezuela, and to support a peaceful, #Venezuelan led #transition.
Did you know? Somaliland was the first East African country to gain independence—before regretfully joining Somalia.
First & Early African Independence Dates:
• Somaliland — June 26, 1960

• Tanzania — Dec 9, 1961
• Rwanda — July 1, 1962
• Burundi — July 1, 1962
• Uganda — Oct 9, 1962

*Somalia never gained independence as a separate colonial state. It inherited—and still occupies—the UN seat originally granted to the independent State of Somaliland in June 1960, a status added without a lawful, ratified union and maintained through international inertia.
Your Excellencies @DannyDanon@michaelgwaltz as the UN Security Council convenes its emergency session on this matter, The Republic of Somaliland respectfully encourage you both to reference these historical facts and Israel’/ US leadership in upholding realities on the ground while fostering regional peace.
Thank you for your commitment to principled and fact-based diplomacy.

From Bush to Biden, every U.S. president has recognized new nations like Kosovo, South Sudan, Cook Islands, Niue.
But none have a case as strong and long-standing as #Somaliland. For 33 years, it has been democratic, peaceful, and an ally to America’s values.
President Trump has the chance to make history again and to do what others would not, and be the leader who finally gives Somaliland the recognition it deserves.

Everywhere you go in the world, #Somalia is known as a place of piracy. And likewise, when I am in the Republic of #Somaliland, it is free from any turmoil, and no such acts of piracy have ever been committed there. Hence, the diabolical and disgraceful reputation of the acts of Somalia has tainted and brought shame to all Somalis.
In this case, how can we, as #Somaliland citizens, remove this stigma and contamination from our name?
A Qatar Airways flight (Qatar 6U) from the Valley to Entebbe, flying at a constant altitude (38,000 ft) was wrongly ordered by the controllers in Mogadishu to climb to 40,000 feet after a near accident less then 40 Second.
A government that has no control over the air space, not even 1% and yet claims it does. The question that may arise from this is: How can it be brought under the safety of civil aviation in the first place?
The Republic of #Somaliland fully controls its airspace, so the government and the people of JSL completely reject the false claims made by #Mogadhishu's government regarding Somaliland's airspace.
