How I love Shiki’s poetry.

Trampling through
Insect cries, I create
A path through the fields
[translation by Donald Keene]
There’s so much I want to say about John Burnside; writing about and teaching his fiction (particularly Glister) changed so much of the way I think. But right now I’m too sad, so what must be one of his shortest poems.
❛ I write because I’m trying to work something out. For myself. I don’t have any answers, but I am ready to speculate.
We're very sorry to hear about the passing of poet and writer John Burnside. Here's one of his wonderful poems, 'Late Show'.
'An absolute belter of a book' Anne Enright
'A shining nugget of gold' Jon McGregor
‘A great big rollicking ballad of a novel’ Colm McCann
‘A bloody brilliant little symphony’ Max Porter
