In @ConHome today talking about the biggest breaking news in the UK.
The Knox Index, and how it shows that our MPs are losing ground on TikTok: https://t.co/LnqXYrmaco
We have age ratings on films.
We have age restrictions on alcohol and energy drinks.
This is not a dystopian or illiberal policy. We KNOW that unfettered access to social media is overwhelmingly harmful to children.
Ban it.
I’m so delighted by this news. It won't be perfect, but it marks an important cultural shift and sends a clear signal about what is and isn't safe for children. Conservatives in opposition are making a real difference, and children across the UK will be safer because of it.
📣 Southwark Council welcomes news that plans by Berkeley Homes for the Aylesham Centre have been rejected.
Berkeley Homes proposed to build 867 homes, including 77 affordable homes, at the site in Peckham alongside retail, leisure and commercial space.
Today a planning inspector has dismissed an appeal by Berkeley Homes, saying “benefits do not outweigh the harm to the relevant designated heritage assets important to the area”.
Cllr Sarah King, Leader of Southwark Council, said: “This is a great day for Peckham and we welcome the planning inspector’s decision to dismiss Berkeley Homes’s appeal for the Aylesham Centre.
“I’d like to personally thank the community who spoke loud and clearly about their concerns.
“We shared those concerns and strongly argued at the public inquiry that the scheme was poorly designed and our position has been vindicated.
“We will read the appeal in detail and carefully consider our next steps.”
YouTube’s reach in Britain now exceeds all BBC channels combined.
The BBC must adapt to the way people consume content today.

I’m so glad this is getting attention.
Social media is the most powerful way to communicate - it can be such a force for good.
But it needs change.
In its current state, the effects it has on our health and politics are horrific.
It was an honour to sit alongside the brave bereaved parents who have tragically lost their children to social media. They are fighting to prevent this from happening to other families.
We owe it to them to act, not to delay any further. We do not need more consultations. I hope MPs will put politics aside & support our amendment to ban social media for u16s when the Bill returns.
More or less my entire adult life the government has chosen to inflation-adjust things when it is not in my* favour, and not to when it would have been in my favour.
*my = young person in work with student loans and no house
If the British media covered issues affecting different generations equally and fairly, the student loan scandal, which will see young people robbed of many thousands of pounds, would be top of every single news bulletin and on the front of every single newspaper - just like when wealthier pensioners faced losing £200 a year in Winter Fuel Payments. But it doesn’t and so it won’t be.
