One year ago, Israel assassinated Palestinian journalist Anas Al-Sharif in a targeted strike on a journalists' tent near Al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza City, alongside five colleagues.

He kept reporting through bombardment, starvation and immense loss, knowing the risks. His assassination was part of a broader campaign of threats, repression and killings targeting journalists documenting the genocide.

The people rebuilding Gaza are the municipality workers clearing rubble, cleaning streets, and slowly piecing neighborhoods back together while bombs fall in the distance. They breathe dust, debris, and toxic air. On July 13, The Sameer Project provided summer clothing and gear to 45 Beit Lahia municipality workers to protect them from the summer sun. For $819 total for the purchase after commission fees of 11%, each worker received lightweight pants or a shirt, and a hat to help them endure the conditions they face every day.

These are armed Israeli surveillance drones flying over Lebanon right now. Not only are they used for data collection, they’re also used as a form of psychological terrorism. The sound you hear in the video is from inside my apartment.

The persistent buzzing of military drones can inflict severe psychological trauma on civilians, especially children, causing anxiety, sleep deprivation, hypervigilance, and PTSD. The omnipresent sound creates a constant sense of being surveilled and an ever-present threat of sudden death. Anyone can be killed or injured in a drone strike at any time, or witness another person being murdered in front of them.

Dental clinics across Gaza are shutting down one after another.

There are no anesthetics, no filling materials, and not even the most basic supplies needed for treatment. In many cases, teeth are now being extracted or treated without any anesthesia because the medications have completely run out.

Who could have imagined that an entire city would reach the point where relief from tooth pain becomes a luxury? Day by day, we are being forced into conditions that resemble centuries past, where people have no choice but to endure unbearable pain.

Gaza is no longer just losing essential services it is losing every foundation of human life. The city is collapsing before our eyes, and what once seemed unimaginable has become our daily reality.

At this moment, a massive residential building next to us has been threatened. It is one of the largest remaining residential buildings in Gaza City, located directly opposite Al-Ahli Arab Hospital (the Baptist Hospital).

The area is now experiencing a state of panic and fear that cannot be described. Doctors and patients are leaving the hospital, families are fleeing their homes, and everyone is searching for any place that might protect them from the next strike.

We are sitting together here, gathered in one place, trying to calm each other and reduce the intensity of the fear. We are waiting to see what will happen in the coming moments, not knowing whether we will survive.

The sounds are everywhere, and anxiety has taken over everyone. Gaza City is being pushed into the unknown, and what remains of life here is collapsing before our eyes.

Even something as simple as understanding colors or learning how they work together becomes a lesson in confidence, self-expression, getting dressed in matching outfits, decide what they like, and everyday life! I am writing these words to you from inside Gaza City, and I say this with complete honesty: the situation has become extremely dangerous, perhaps worse than ever before.

Temperatures continue to rise, and the tents have turned into real ovens. More than 170,000 tents across Gaza City are sheltering thousands of families in conditions that are impossible to describe. Inside these tents, temperatures exceed 50°C (122°F). There is no electricity, no fans, no air conditioning, and none of the basic necessities needed to survive.

The tents are packed tightly together, with almost no space between them. Many families are forced to leave their tents and sit in the streets because remaining inside has become unbearable.

Water is desperately scarce, and the extreme heat is making thirst even more severe. And this is only the beginning of summer. Every day, I see the effects of the intense heat on children’s bodies heat rashes, exhaustion, and suffering while insects emerging from the ground make life even harder.

The coming days could be even more devastating if these conditions continue. The tents are no longer places of shelter; they have become another source of danger.

Please don’t let these families be forgotten. Speak about them. Write about them. Share their stories with others. Keep their voices alive and let the world know what is happening. Behind every tent is a family struggling to survive.

They need to be seen, they need to be heard, and they need your solidarity.

Basically we've got two choices: we either aggressively denormalize Israel or we watch our society become more and more Israeli.

We either collectively reject Israel, or we watch western militaries fuse inseparably with the IDF.

We either turn support for Israel into political campaign poison, or we watch politicians obliterate our right to criticize Israel while backing increasingly evil Israeli military agendas.

We either ferociously oppose our government's involvement in middle eastern wars, or we watch Israeli leaders grow more and more ecstatic as more and more western blood and treasure flows into the war machine.

We either normalize viewing Israel as a freakish abomination, or we sit passively watching authoritarian Zionist operations like Palantir get inseparably interwoven into every level of western power institutions.

We either stand together to oppose Israel for the racist apartheid state that it is, or we watch our Muslim neighbors suffer increasing discrimination and abuse at home while our governments help massacre our Muslim brothers and sisters using high-tech war machinery abroad.

The west's growing collective rejection of Israel is the growth of the western conscience. The burgeoning pro-Palestine movement. The disgust with the Iran war. Young people's cultural cringe around all things Israeli. The increasingly unapologetic eye-rolling every time "antisemitism" is used as an excuse to shut down criticism of Israel. These are signs that we are growing morally healthier.

That's a good thing. The more we unite around a red hot "NO" to Israel and Zionism, the harder it will be for those in power to normalize the increasing Israelification of our society.

Because funding has fallen so sharply, The Sameer Project kitchen is only able to cook half as many days each week, and on those days we serve only half the number of meals we once did. Every reduction means more parents wondering how they will feed their children, and more families going to sleep hungry.

On July 4, The Sameer Project provided 386 servings of rice meals to displaced families in Al-Sarraj Camp. The entire distribution cost $1,159 after 11% commission fees.

Marah lives in Beit Lahia near the yellow line and spends hours studying to achieve her dream of becoming a doctor. In her area, there’s no electricity or internet so students have to do their exams in cafes in the heat and with loud sounds around them.
