I'm blessed to know—let alone be married to—@lindseynmoser, and I'm always glad to stumble across new pictures of her, like this one posted on LinkedIn March 5th as she took part in "National Women's College & University Day" at her alma mater @HollinsU. #NationalWomensCollegeDay
Plane taken, paper presented, now headed home. Happy to've taken part in the 53rd Annual Louisville Conf. on Literature & Culture where I talked on TS Eliot (such as @IntlTSEliotSoc & @eliotfoundation ) alongside noted scholar Frances Dickey. "It was (you may say) satisfactory."
"I can now depart." he said. As this Christmas season closes, may we too sense fulfillment. Whether thru gifts, health, or simply a reminder of God’s greatest gift, may we recognize all that has been given to us and may our hearts fill w/gratitude as God’s promises are fulfilled.
Luke tells about an elderly man named Simeon who spent his life waiting for the Messiah. When Mary and Joseph brought the infant Jesus to the temple—much like a baby dedication today—Simeon saw Him and knew his waiting was over. Having witnessed the very first Christmas gift....
The last 24hrs have been filled w/many blessings all of which are reminders of the richness of life and how God blesses. My boyhood hero #DickVanDyke hit 100, I saw the 13th ann. of my ordination, and I was officially sworn in as a RLO @navy_reserve! (Navy Beat Army 17-16 btw!)
@RayComfort If you think apologia is about 'arguing' or else limited to 'proving God's exist'' than, respectfully, I would say you have a skewed or wrong view of apologetics which the Bible clearly calls and explains how believers can do. Doubt you'll ever actually respond to this though.
@Bert_Plumswang I have a written letter from him. We were planning to meet, but he passed before I could fly from New Zealand to the UK. He (and Eric Liddell) were THE true "Flying Scotsman."
2025 MMLA Conference @Marquette concluded today (4me at least) after more good talks ranging from id'ing TS Eliot's work thur AI to journal submission advice. Thanks to Milwaukee's citizens who were warm/ welcoming & the City's Finest @MilwaukeePolice for giving a PD Chap a lift.
Flew ✈️ to Milwaukee late last night to present @MarquetteU for the 2025 Midwest Modern Language Association (MMLA)'s @IntlTSEliotSoc Panel. Thankful thus far to be blessed with lovely sunshine 🌞 and good conversation.
Anne de Gaulle was the youngest daughter of General Charles de Gaulle.
She was born in Trier, Germany, where her father was stationed with the Army of Occupation in the Rhineland.
She was born with Down Syndrome and in a time where disabled children were sent to institutions, she lived with her family until her death. There was one sacred rule in the de Gaulle household: Anne was never to be made to feel different or less than anyone else. Charles de Gaulle was noted for his reserve and even with family members he was usually not very demonstrative. Not so with his daughter Anne, who received a warmth that he had seemed to be storing for his entire life just for her. He would entertain her with songs, dances, and pantomimes, he would often act as a child himself for her joy. One Colombey resident recalled how he used to walk with her hand-in-hand around the property, caressing her and talking quietly about the things she understood. She was, he said simply, "My joy. She helped me overcome the failings in all men, and to look beyond them".
In 1948, Anne succumbed to pneumonia, a month after her 20th birthday and died in her father's arms. Upon her death, weeping, her father said: "Now, she's like the others."
On 22 August 1962, Charles de Gaulle was the victim of an attempted assassination at Petit-Clamart. He later said that the potentially fatal bullet had been stopped by the frame of the photograph of Anne that he always carried with him, placed this particular day on the rear shelf of his car.
When he died on November 9th 1970, he was buried in the cemetery of Colombey beside his beloved daughter.
She could only utter one word clearly in her entire life: "Papa"
@HSRdirector@MarquetteU Wow! Small world. I will be presenting at the MMLA conference there @MarquetteU this coming Friday. I'm on a panel looking at T.S Eliot, and I'm specifically talking on his classis Christmas poem "Jorney of the Magi."
@HSRdirector Lord, thank you that you instantly hear us when we call on you, & we can live up each other regardless of our location or time. I pray right now for my friend and sister in Christ, Kristin. Give her peace & protection that she can't even understand but needs & welcomes. Amen amen
@HSRdirector How beautiful! I appreciate this find on many levels, including as a historian, but most of all as a believer, knowing how gifts can continue to be a blessing even years after they're received and also knowing, as you rightly said, we can look forward to reuniting with the giver.
#OTD in 1915, Ernest Shackleton ordered the crew of 'Endurance' to abandon ship. Trapped and drifting in an ice floe since January, the pressure was finally too much and the ship had begun to take on water.
Over the next few days, parties were sent back to retrieve as much of the stores and equipment as they could. This included the ship's lifeboats, which would become critical in the eventual rescue of the men. 'Endurance' continued to be crushed by the ice and eventually sank on 21st November 1915.
