it is genuinely mindblowing to me how people are genuinely clueless about why jobs...exist
they act like jobs are just this thing that emerges from the ether
every worker is a consumer every consumer a worker
@Eric_Erins When it’s high profile there is a tangling between reaction to the act, and reaction to the reaction. I think the feelings in reaction to reaction are still generally valid, but by that point the individuals humanity gets lost ie-kirk
@RealDianeYap@hecubian_devil It also has to do with the primacy of the reason. Arday had status from his academic work and life story, which were the falsehoods. Cancelling someone for a bad opinion unrelated to what they do is a different matter, and seemingly no upshot
@hecubian_devil Seemed Woke1 created a lot of what felt like unjustified shame into a lot of individuals, which seems to have stoked a lot of the reactionary energy. While libs learned new norms from woke1, others felt attacked or unfairly aligned
realized my mood issues for the last month or so is really some anhedonia from zepbound. Both relieved that it’s not a me issue, but also I want the joy back!!
You see this pressure too in business as well. Just because you are a great at doing X does not mean you’ll be good at running an X business. Skill and business (or influencer) acumen are not the same!
We need a name for the cultural pressure by which you are not just encouraged to be into a thing, but to be into a thing and be an influencer for that thing. Everyone who gets really into a thing today, young people especially, try to become an influencer for that thing. The reality is that the passion and skill that might make you a really good woodworker or lifter or dancer might be totally different from what's needed to be a good content creator/influencer (aggressive marketing). In many cases I see half the effort in someone's pursuit going to projecting "the journey" (the pursuit of that pursuit) on social media. It actively holds people back from getting actually good at their thing, and every minute spent trying to become an influencer for somebody who does not ultimately end up a successful influencer is wasted
@Pandora_Delaney I’m currently dating two women who look like my wife but in different fonts. I swear I have more types, but a type certainly has me! haha
@mattyglesias I'm gonna guess these data-center builders haven't been doing the same level of local schmoozing and favor winning that similarly scaled industrial plants would do, they just do not seem to be playing the game well
@maiamindel I feel like in a certain period in the 20th century this scenario could've been true. Rags to riches business owner who doesn't acculturate to high society would see the waitress as their same class. The same dynamic is hardly around anymore
@pagan_hoetry Also, is it too much to set expectations? People treat this as a character defining action, and not something that there can be reasonable disagreements over
@mnolangray I remember being a big fan at time of his passing. I’ve continued to be, but there’s a strange conflict in what he did in light of what it became. It’s harder to interface with the totality of it. It had been my dream, now far from certain
