Aerial turned 18 in November. My son did the same in January. A time for reflection then. On being on the cusp of change, and how Kate Bush shows us the true meaning of life can be found in the everyday.

New post on the complexities of being a contemporary @MassiveAttackUK fan and also a Bristol resident - the unspoken tension between solidarity with their activism and a hometown nostalgia for early 90s afterparties.

@FemiOnDrums My kid was at your Wednesday night show and he was BUZZING when he got home. Blessed he gets to see you do this. He is 16 and all about hip-hop and now you. 👏👏
Can't retailers just do more with less / not have so many employees if they can't afford them / spend less on avocado toast etc. Or is that purely for marginalised citizens we choose not to help rather than huge corporates who choose to look after themselves?
Following Rachel Reeves’ rise in employers’ national insurance contributions - this is the additional costs to business per year

(I have not seen the footage. Only the takes. I don't know what the 'truth' of this story is but that's not my point. My point is that knowing of different interpretations might once have prompted attempts to clarify or confirm. But no longer. I know you already know this.)
Never mind football, LIFE is seen VAR. But as in sport, access to endless replays from all angles seemingly fails to get us to any kind of agreed, objective truth. Tribal loyalty frames what we see. And yet we will never step back from the technology now we have it. Game's gone.
Mehdi Hasan is justifying a pogrom against Jews in Amsterdam. Yet make no mistake: mainstream media will continue platforming Hasan because America no longer treats antisemitism as a moral line that should never be crossed.
A society that fails to stigmatize antisemites will get more of them.
To narcissists, anything other than fawning adoration is an attack. They can't be wrong, at fault, or laughed at. They will swallow the world in order to prove it wrong. But it's never enough: they're hollow. So they pick new fights, over and over again. As we're finding out.
@Will_Humphrey @BrandDNA Well, that was magnificent. Both downbeat & uplifting. How does he do that? Get so transcendent without relying on ritual & familiarity? Make 2 & 1/2 hours fly? The Wild God stuff soared. The Weeping Song, well. My lad was agog that 67 yr old could PERFORM like that.
@ViewFromEssex@drmartinking I listened to a podcast with a musician who covers Hejira as a live show. Said to minimise time between songs and to play them all she needed 9 pre-tuned guitars ready to go. 9.
happy 81st birthday to the incredible joni mitchell!
here’s joni playing “coyote” with roger mcguinn and bob dylan at gordon lightfoot’s home in toronto, canada, 1975.
We recently started a thing for/with our 11 yr old daughter: female excellence on display, an album cover calendar placed prominently in our hallway. She’s chosen the first three. This was August.
@Alex_Niven Totally. Boomer men in their 50s, replacing/enhancing their old vinyl collection, wise-after-the-fact about Nick Drake & the Velvets thanks to Mojo, crate-digging in the HMVs of provincial towns before Northern Rock wiped them out...
