@pureMetatron Here is a truth: every individual has multiple, sometimes competing, belief systems. But in the hierarchy of belief systems, political beliefs are almost always ascendant. No matter what religious beliefs may tell a person, political beliefs tend to win out.
@sbkaufman Therapist here who majored in English minored in philosophy as an undergrad, so I am the literal example of what Mel is suggesting. And while I am also a writer by profession, had my intentions as an undergrad been to become a therapist, I would have majored in psychology.
Just once, I would like to see a postmodernist scholar defending the “intertextuality” of plagiarism actually plagiarize in their academic paper. Wouldn’t that be putting your ideas to work? #plagiarism
@zdon89@sbkaufman@JonathanLWai@nntaleb Agreed. There is always a degree of unavoidable measurement error with psychometric testing; the ability to measure the workings of the mind is decidedly different than the ability to measure the physical world.
@sbkaufman Those same people are often the ones arguing that doctoral school is easy and anyone can do it - while never having done it themselves. In support of IQ tests, they may be imperfect, but they have some of the best reliability and validity in psychometrics.
@sbkaufman@ToddGailun@MuseumModernArt Imagine Sternberg and Gardner standing at two bathroom urinals good-naturedly talking smack about each other’s theories while they handled their business. I have a colleague who witnessed that at a conference a few years ago.
@brucelee "Truly, 'thoughts are things,' and powerful things at that, when they are mixed with definiteness of purpose, persistence, and a burning desire for their translation into riches, or other material objects." - Napoleon Hill, "Think and Grow Rich", page 19
The word “often” is imprecise and a terrible replacement for a statistic addressing the frequency with which a phenomenon occurs. My colleagues in Gifted and Talented education and the greater psychological fields should stop using it to justify their arguments.
The national media has quickly become the media arm of Hamas. If Hamas tells you anything it must be reported as fact. Can you imagine post 9/11 the national media reporting “facts” from calls from Al Qaeda while the WTC was still smoldering? #clownshow
