Q: When did we first have a formal Quantum Mechanics class at CCNY?
A: 1957!
That's more than 50 years after Planck's Lectures and Einstein's photoelectric effect work!

So, 👋reporters, when you show a picture of Shepard Hall and say CUNY, it’s kinda wrong. Yes, it’s a CUNY, but it’s not the CUNY. There is no single CUNY (To take a picture of the CUNY, you would need to go some office building on East 42nd Street.)

We've been reeling since last week's events. It’s a tangled mess. But, one frustration I have, and one that we likely all share, is the confusion between the two acronyms: CCNY and CUNY. Even native New Yorkers often mix them up, as does the national press. Let’s resolve that! 🧵

City College is the oldest of the institutions under the CUNY umbrella. It started as the Free Academy in 1847 and was later renamed College of the City of New York. In 1961, CUNY was formed, joining CCNY with other municipal schools in the city, like Baruch, Hunter, and others.

@jacobin @lfeatherz No one, ever, has called CUNY the "Harvard of the Proletariat." That was a tagline for City College (CCNY) during the first half of the 20th Cent, well before CUNY existed as an institution. But, yes, we need more funding! (as always)
