I’m sorry I can hear you over the sound of winning the Stanley Cup
I understand if a fan of a Canadian team wouldn’t understand, since that hasn’t happened for them since before the internet was widespread
As we await the result of the Leo Carlsson offer sheet, let’s take a moment to reminisce about the time when Montreal offer sheeted Carolina’s best player and the Canes responded by going “oh yeah? Let’s see how you like it when we offer sheet your WORST player!”
According to @MikeStrawMedia, many devs who knew about the stuff coming to College Football 27 were “livid” about it for months
He says “Even future single-player-only titles will have more monetization options enabled.” This is no longer about just CFB 27
This is about the future and direction of games coming from EA. I am speechless #CFBPlayDontPay
This app is a nice escape for an unserious boy like myself. I prefer to use it that way, of course. But sometimes real life and real emotions of human experiences get in the way. I admittedly got emotional last night - as I have many nights since last summer. I haven’t disclosed this because I don’t typically get too personal on here but that is when I lost my father unexpectedly. Out of nowhere that was it.
Every happy situation that arises I can’t help but still feel that pull in the back of my mind. Knowing that he isn’t here. Knowing that he’s missing something he’d love. My dad was a proud American. He was a Marine veteran who fought in the Middle East during Desert Storm. He came from a long line of veterans. He was a real patriot. He truly believed in God, Country, and Family. So while I had a great time with my family and friends on the 4th of July celebrating America’s birthday, playing with kids of my own, that little pull was there. He’d absolutely love the massive spectacle of this country’s 250th.
But he isn’t here… no calls, no texts. He didn’t get to see the USA win the Olympic gold in hockey for the first time since shortly after he had graduated high school in the late 70s. He could quote the movie Miracle in his sleep. He’d have shed a tear no doubt in my mind. So I did. He isn’t here to talk with me about this magical USMNT run and how cool it is to have it happen stateside during this time. Seeing all the people from around the world taking it all in the American experience doing more for patriotism than any government official ever could by just simply living here for a brief time. He’d have been loving that too
It’s all these little things since he passed that shift my perspective. I see everything different. I see so many of the lessons along the way just illuminating in front of me in real time. Life is short. Life is precious. Life is worth celebrating - it damn sure is living in this country. And this life is worth fighting for. Because true patriots fought for the ideal. The “unborn millions” as George Washington famously said. Conquer or die in the name of independence.
Hug your parents. Hug your kids. Love your people and tell them you love them. For 250 years this country has strived for an ideal. Certainly hasn’t been without blemishes and sure to be many more. But everyone here, whether they agree or disagree on anything, is aiming to make a better version of it for the next group that comes along. The right to disagree. The right to protest. The right to speak your mind. The right to question your government and influence it. Everything is on the table and everything is worthy of a conversation. That’s the beauty of it all. That’s what my dad and the brave people long before him openly and famously fought for. To be that city upon a hill. That is real freedom.
So I might have had several drinks for myself throughout the long day of swimming, playing cornhole, cooking out, shooting fireworks, all the things. But I made sure to have a drink for my old man. It was bittersweet but I found solace in knowing how he’d have been ecstatic yesterday just knowing people are not only enjoying the day but that they are truly blessed to be able to celebrate it.
Til the next 250. 🍻 War Damn #America 🇺🇸
If you’re a USA Soccer fan, rooting for Mexico tonight to beat England is akin to being a UNC fan and rooting for Duke to beat NC State.
Yes, we don’t like either, but one is clearly worse. I can’t believe I’m seeing people choose the other side.
