“Few dumber things in sports than offsides in football, why can’t defenders just sit behind the offensive line. More sacks means a more exciting game!”
I wonder if American football fans have CTE by proxy.
There are few dumber things in sports than offsides in soccer
Get back on D, son
(Seriously, imagine if a receiver couldn't run past a DB in football on a deep ball, or you couldn't get out on a fast break in hoops)
@honorablesaint So it’s wrong to show respect to your heritage? I guess you are against any celebrations of other national heritage in America like St. Patrick’s Day?
Mamdani truly has the Mandate of Heaven. Arsenal, Knicks… all he needs is a second half of the season rally from the Mets and nothing will be impossible for him.
This is why you can never truly defeat the liberal mind. This man gets a Sunday nyt print delivered to his door, has a ‘in this house we believe’ sign, and you can’t tell him shit about anything.
Exactly, who can forget such ambitious policies like student loan forgiveness for Pell Grant recipients who open a small business in an underserved community
A lot of DSAers seem to criticize a Democratic Party that simply does not exist.
"The party needs to talk about the economy, housing, and groceries!"
Yeah look dude, I get you were too busy with the Uncommitted bullshit to notice, but Harris talked all about that.
My son's elite private high school school held graduation last week.
There were roughly 100 kids in the graduating class. Lots of extremely bright kids. Probably 20 IB diplomas. And maybe a dozen of those kids were Cum Laude Society too, including my son. These kids are incredibly smart and hard working. They had straight A's throughout high school, at an elite school, in the most challenging curriculum and earned the highest SAT scores.
Out of the entire class, there was only one student who was accepted into an Ivy League school. One. But he didn't earn an IB diploma. He wasn't Cum Laude Society. Or on the Head Master's List.
He is a great kid. And I'm happy for him. This isn't, in any way, a criticism of him. But, you already know -- he had something none of the highest achieving kids had.
Something has gone terribly wrong with our society when the very brightest kids are systematically barred from the most elite academic colleges in the country. And especially when the board of the school and its staff see absolutely nothing wrong with this outcome.
In fact they will, undoutably, call me a bigot -- again. But when will they fight for our sons?
They won't. Our sons are the wrong color.
P.S. In the middle of the ceremony, the American flag left of the stage fell over and hit the ground. The school's headmaster picked it up. But he didn't know how to fix the mount. So, he just stood it back up and let it fall over again. Twice. Finally a man who was obviously a former member of the armed services came over and, standing at attention, held the flag upright. Tells you 100% everything you need to know about the headmaster and the culture of that school.
I was in line for lunch and I heard some Brits behind me talking about how they weren’t going to southern Europe this summer because 32C/90F is too hot.
Wow, the S&P Dow Jones Indices has just officially announced that they will NOT be changing their inclusion rules to make it easier for “MegaCap” companies (such as @SpaceX) to be fast-tracked into the S&P 500.
Their reasoning:
"S&P DJI determined that exceptions to the financial viability, seasoning, and IWF requirements should not be granted solely based on market capitalization. The decision not to adopt the proposed exceptions preserves core index principles by maintaining consistent application of these key requirements. Although there may be trade-offs between strict adherence to these eligibility requirements and broad representativeness, the current methodology provides substantial market coverage and sector balance. As a result, the indices can continue to meet their stated objectives while preserving their role as representative and investable benchmarks for the U.S. equity market.
No changes will be made to the eligibility criteria including financial viability screens, seasoning period, or minimum IWF, for the S&P 500, S&P MidCap 400, or S&P SmallCap 600 as a result of the S&P Dow Jones Indices consultation on the treatment of MegaCap companies. Accordingly, there will be no changes to existing methodology for this index family."
This means that the earliest @SpaceX could be eligible to be added to the S&P 500 would now be June 2027.
The requirements that will now remain in place are:
• No changes to S&P 500 eligibility rules for mega-cap companies.
• Mega-cap companies will still need to wait 12 months after their IPO before being considered for S&P 500 inclusion.
• S&P will not waive profitability requirements for mega-cap companies. The company must have positive GAAP net income in the most recent quarter, and the sum of the most recent four consecutive quarters.
• S&P will not waive minimum public float requirements for mega-cap companies. At least 10% of a company's shares must be publicly tradable ("free float").
The S&P rejected proposals that would have:
• Reduced the IPO seasoning period from 12 months to 6 months
• Waived profitability requirements
• Waived minimum public float requirements
