The Onceler aka The Hustler was not the bad guy in The Lorax. The Lorax was a Progressive Tree Hugger who was crushed under Capitalism. Instead of asking for or pushing through government restrictions on Thneed production, or forcing The Onceler to pay into projects to replanting Trees and reinvestment into the forest to rebuild for the animals. The Lorax formed a stupid union and protested and ultimately ended up a loser. Like most piety green tree hugger protester do anyways.

And in the end the Trees ended up getting replanted anyways. So he complained over nothing.

The Hustler was a successful young man providing for a family whom he loved even though they did not always view him well and understood and thanked him once he did become successful when they realized they were wrong.

The Lorax was a fat probably smelly loser who probably never worked for anything in his life and out of envy used this so called noble mission to take from The Onceler the means of production to give back to the animals.

Childcare is work. Teaching children is work. Cooking is work. Cleaning is work. Driving people around is work. Managing schedules is work. Taking care of babies is work. Managing a household is work.

But somehow, and for some reason if we combine all of these things into just one woman, if we combine all of these jobs to one woman, to just one house, with children who live there and call her Mom, then people suddenly start asking, “What does she even do all day?”

You’d never ask this of any of those professions. It is only mothers at home that have this extra burden of proof, that somehow we need to justify extra hard that we indeed are productive members of society, that we indeed work hard, that we indeed do things all day long.

The only difference in all of this is that women at home do this work for the people they love, instead of for people who pay her, and that should make the work more valuable, not less.
