Janesville finishes off a mercy rule victory 10-0 in 5 over Colo Nesco. Trevor Santee was brilliant on the bump with 12 Ks. He also was HBP, walked, and had a 2 RBI single. Grant Destival was on base all 3 times and drove in 2.
The Wildcats' Trevor Santee has been marvelous this season. On the mound hes got 67 Ks in 37.1 innings and an ERA of 1.31. At the plate hes hitting .388 with an OBP of .529 and has a team best 24 RBIs!
Being coachable is a SKILL
Young players! Watch the eye contact here. There is a reason Auburn is going to be number 1

As basketball practices are starting all over the country.
My advice to all players..
1. Layups, Free Throws and Scoring in the Post, Keeps you in every game.
2. Midrange Jumpers, Win you games.
3. To many 3’s, To many deep 3’s and to many step back 3’s,
Lose you games.
Watched the storm roll by today that became tornado warned shortly afterwards. Was watching from the Lone Tree Rd exit looking North towards Janesville about 4:33pm today.

When myself or any other scout, watches a 3B/SS/2B, we have to prepare that you “may not” get a ground ball in the game. So what do we look for if that becomes the case?
Take your GB work from the 1B between inns seriously with a plan!
We are looking for the following: Consistent accurate throws ALL the time. Footwork, body syncing, actions/movement patterns, or how your body works? Your hands and how your feet and glove work. Grading your arm strength and most importantly, how serious you take this “small” task, which is not small, but vastly important! Do you have a routine and are you consistent in that routine?!
1) As an IN’er take your in-between innings GB’s from the 1B seriously!
2) Are you consistent in your throws w/accuracy back to the 1B’man?
3) All INF’ers should take a routine GB straight up at your pos, then take a GB to your forehand, then backhand. You usually get 2-3 GB’s before the pitcher is ready to go. Mix them up throughout the game, working them in throughout the 7-9 inning game.
4) 3B take a GB from the back corner of the INF/OF grass to show off your arm strength, which also keeps your arm stretched out for the long throw and continues to build and develop arm strength.
5) SS take a GB(s) from the deep 6 hole as well, with the same thinking as the 3B.
6) 2B take your routine GB from deep behind the 2B bag and then as well from straight up SS.
7) 2B/SS - Together work in some turns and feeds around the bag. Be accurate.
8) Work on throwing from multiple arm angles, depending on the type of GB you’re receiving
9) One of the INF’ers has to be proactive in making sure all the INF’ers keep their gloves/hats together as a unit, so as to be able to know where your glove/hat is to bring to you, if you are the last out of an inning or are left on base. We don’t want to see INF’ers being delayed in bringing your glove/hat to you by having to yell “where’s your bag?!”
10) Last box to check off for a 2B’man is can you play SS? If you don’t profile as an everyday player at the next level, but fall into the UTL category, a 2B must be able to play SS for a time or stretch, in case of an injury. You won’t be able to be a UTL player in playing 3B/SS as a 2B, if you can’t play SS.
Arm strength, consistency in your work, preparation and having a plan are all being evaluated. You never know who’s watching and what we are watching? Everything you do on the field is being evaluated.

Free Bases
During my years coaching in the Angels organization we would keep track of these every game. FREE BASES. Our goal was to have 5 or less per game. Our analytics department told us if we did this we had a 72% chance of winning that game.
FREE BASES are…
Walks
Balks
Wild Pitches
Passed Balls
Errors
Stolen Bases
HBP (Hit By Pitch)
The best way to accomplish this goal game after game was through discussion, taking it one pitch at a time, being intentional in our preparation and to slow the game down mentally. “You control the game, don’t let it control you”.
Walks: Whether there is no runners on or the bases are loaded, slow it down, analyze the situation you are in and execute a quality pitch. Make them earn their way on base, give them something to hit and don’t GIVE them that FREE BASE!
Balks: Again, slow the game down. Balks usually happen when we let things speed up on us. Make sure you are ready before you put your foot on that rubber. Develop a relaxed intensity that allows for you to be locked in and focused but also prepared for chaos. Don’t panic when your opponent tries to get in your head.
Wild Pitches: To prevent these, it takes two players. As pitchers, first we need a controlled consistent delivery that allows for a consistent release point. As a catcher, we need to be confident in our ability to block the baseball. Work hard and become one of the best at it. It does a lot mentally for a pitcher knowing that they can throw an 0-2 breaking ball in the dirt and their backstop has their back and will do their part.
Passed Balls: Catchers, this is on you. Focus on every pitch. Watch the ball all the way to your glove. Give hard focus when catching bullpens. Focus on receiving. Develop your fast twitch.
Errors: The more we limit these as a team, we will always have a better chance at getting that W. Work your butt off to be a fundamentally sound player! Coaches, never ignore the importance of your team being able to take care of the baseball. Defensive fundamentals must be a weekly focus.
Stolen Bases: This is on the pitchers. We NEED to be experts at controlling the running game. Learn what counts they like to run in. Vary your hold times. Don’t fall into patterns (don’t hold for the same count every pitch). Develop quality pick-off moves. Have a good inside move to second. These all take practice. This is a must if you want to be the best at this game!!
HBP: For me, this one could go both ways. Yes it is counted as a FREE BASE but this FREE BASE can work for us as pitchers too. If we are good at pitching inside, this WILL happen. When this does happen, not only will that hitter remember that the next time they come up but when we pitch in (and happen to hit a couple batters), every guy in the other dugout will start to notice. They all might start backing off the plate opening up the outer half for us. Pitchers, develop confidence on pitching inside. That is YOUR plate!!
Limit the FREE BASES we allow as a team and our odds of winning that game go way up!!
The refs really messed this maryland vs South Carolina game up smh… this has to be addressed. Horrible foul calls all game against Maryland. They didn’t stand a chance
