if you read the nytimes under the guise that every article is pretty much written by a (former) theater kid who often lacks a basic understanding of economics & what actually drives a functioning thriving society/economy then all of the pieces become insanely fun to read.
@v_j_freeman@John_Stepek Now we see the tax the billionaires and super rich turns into tax the very well paid.., in fact tax anyone earning over £50k and with £25k+ in savings. The punitive politics of envy
@lfg_uk@Object_Zero_ Remember BT, British Gas, etc being sold off… you had a brief moment of normal people owning shares. It can be done, just need to create right incentives and messaging
the reason why soccer’s not a thing in america is because its entertainment payoff distribution has a mode near zero.
you can sit through 90 min & the modal outcome is nothing fucking happens. american sports solved this with guaranteed event frequency… e.g. baseball gives you a discrete resolution every ~30 sec, & american football every play. the floor is high even when the ceiling is low.
while soccer is a lottery ticket.. you occasionally get mexico/england, otherwise you get the snoozefest that was portugal vs spain.
@Finumus1 Go to your local “recycling center” (only after you book online) and count the number of signs and security cameras there. It costs a lot to outsource such nonsense
From ‘billionaires’ to anything above $50 million in 6 days time.
Next stop, anyone that has over $1 million net worth. Which is almost anyone with some home equity and a 401k.
Slippery slope is not a fallacy. Socialists will not stop until they control everything you work for.
@DanNeidle This alone qualifies your opinion as utterly retrograde. Normalise is a sleight of hand - it’s taking now and constraining for all time. It’s anything but normalised, it’s harming employment
@StevenJMethven@JohnSmith8eu3 We don’t have good home grown tech companies. More importantly we don’t have a good model for UK owned and funded companies or venture capital to help them.
Prioritising tech sovereignty starts with prioritising efficient capitalisation and friendly regulatory environment.
@HamelHusain@juliarturc Been the same forever - lo/no code tools, it’s high agency people who make the most out of them. Most people in enterprise organisations won’t/can’t. AI is no different. People are not homogeneously capable, creative and adaptive. No tool or process fixes that
@RollingHedge “UC has made it profitable to break up full time work”… full time work does not pay when UC gives you the same for part time. Almost certainly the worker side more important here.
@TheSecretAcct Imagine if they change income tax and then go back over 20+ years and retrospectively apply it… I’m only ok normalising it going forward, inflation index, risk adjust, have good offsets. Which is too complicated, keep it simple.
honestly, "labs" is such bullshit. What fucking "labs"? Why are we calling Anthropic a "lab"? It's a $1T+ corporation/ideological conspiracy with like 5000 members building a superweapon in secrecy, dropping hints from time to time. DeepSeek is a lab. this is a ticking time bomb
