Not a surprising turn of events today, but a deeply disappointing one. It terrifies me for my girls that our courts and legislators care more about what a few racist elitist men thought a few hundred years ago than their personhood and safety today.
@derekkbaker_ @Not_CharLatte What if we stopped pretending we need to interpret what a bunch of slave owners from hundreds of years ago wanted and instead built a world where we can all live a life worth living :)
@ldaviesmusic @Mtnsbeyondmtns @pjmurphy249 @DavidBarondeau Let’s keep in mind that UNC buses are free to all *who can afford to live in Chapel Hill*—which is becoming more and more difficult for graduate students, contingent faculty, and those generally on the lower end of the salary spectrum.
@gcornish91 I was living in a country at war when I was a kid. I asked my mum which side was going to win. She answered, No one ever *wins* a war. I didn’t get it back then now I understand that regardless of the outcome the human price is always too high, all around.

Also one of our Graduate Academy students @lidukha_ took part in her own panel on Gulags!

And here’s another thing, people making more “commercially viable” art is not necessarily a compromise. Some people like doing, are good at it, and feel fulfilled doing it. Stop being weird about people making art the way they choose to. That’s literally the point of art. 4/6
@NaomiRendina Falling. Not heights- I can be very high up, including planes, balconies, rooftops, etc, and not feel anxiety if I don’t feel like I could fall. But walking down a steep-ish slippery hill can make me hyperventilate and stadium seating makes my heart pound if I look down.
@TrevorRNelson And along the same lines, we somehow insist on on perpetuating the idea that teeth (and sometimes eyes, I guess?) are not part of our medical health? Taking care of them is, like, supposed to be optional?
