Questions. 1. Why do Italian public hospitals never seem to have functioning WiFi? 2. Wards are often without privacy curtains — even mixed wards. Why? In a ward I was in a woman with dementia was unceremoniously stripped by three staff in full view of everyone. Shameful.

Been uplifting, dismaying, eye- opening to be a patient in the Italian public health care system. On Friday night
triage nurses and a doctor saved my life following a heart attack. This was at Santa Rosa hospital in Viterbo: a further procedure Monday night also was important

@hgurdon I’m trying but it is an uphill battle — some of the obstacles and silliness I’ve experienced are collectively enough to prompt another heart attack. I try to remain calm.

And some of the treatment of patients I have witnessed has been shocking. I intend to write about this more and to chronicle what I see

And a disregard for human dignity and a disdain of the idea of empowering patients. Today I discharged myself when it became clear that there was no real thinking behind what the next recovery steps should be. I rented a private ambulance and pitched up at Gemelli.

Although they seemed disbelieving. So it is off to ICU again after only having been just been let out of another ICU. So the movement I should at this stage be doing will be curtailed. I hope only for a day. But I don’t feel my recovery has been helped much, in fact the reverse

I will be admitted tonight for further treatment. But shocking to discover that the medical record Viterbo gave me made no mention of the Monday procedure that saw more stents placed.Gemelli was about to do the same procedure until I told them it had already been done.

Of course I am grateful and thankful for the great professionalism. But the rest of my experience so far has been disturbing with shoddy nursing from demoralized staff, arrogance by doctors with God complexes; dysfunction; poor follow up; no thought given to rehab; poor hygiene
