Azeez Al-Shaair shared with @SeanTPendergast a couple weeks ago that defensive coordinator Matt Burke opened the offseason by showing the defense clips of their mistakes and slippage down the stretch last season.
Al-Shaair explained Burke is holding the unit accountable to the standard they’ve set for themselves as to being the league’s best defense. He pointed out that while points allowed per game isn’t the end-all-be-all, the Texans’ numbers dipped significantly over the final three games after leading much of the season.
One of the biggest MVP robberies of all time happened in the 2014-2015 season.
I'll forever stand on that hill.
@JJWatt' stat line from that year:
- 78 tackles (59 solo, 19 assist)
- 20.5 sacks
- 4 forced fumbles (5 recovered)
- 1 80-yard pick-6 (as a 6'5, 288-lb DE)
- 3 receiving TD's
Mind you, the man had more receiving TD's (3) than the entire Kansas City Chiefs receiving core that season (0).
He still won NFL DPOY that season, and is still the only defensive player EVER to have multiple 20+ sack campaigns.
