Pakistan electricity price (& import) shock to be less
Share of oil was 35% in FY15 which is almost zero in FY25 due to growing reliance on indigenous- nuclear, local coal & renewable
However, due to transmission constraints, absence of RLNG to force load shedding in Punjab
This was by far the best press conference of the conflict from Pakistan. Precise, prepared and to the point. No waffling or emotional language. Just facts, data, evidence and putting out Pakistan's perspective with conviction.
In my opinion Aurangzeb smiled when the DG ISPR denied Pakistan having any pilot because the news was planted by the boys only. It was a “love it when a plan comes together” smile. Not a “yea we have her but we can’t say it” smile.
But we are all guessing here!
If they do that to their own Foreign Secretary, you can imagine the rest.
So far we have been talking about the military dynamics of this Indo-Pak round. But time will tell the fallout India is going to be facing down the road in other domains.
The world was watching - and what the world saw was a complete horror show. Perceptions have been changed.
- Media credibility? In the gutter.
- The plethora of so-called free journalists? All govt propagandists.
- Diplomatic incident with Iran, thanks to media and propagandists gone wild.
- Mass censorship on social media. News websites blocked, accounts restricted.
- Govt messages bombarded locals to only trust govt propaganda.
- Social media and TV media flooded with fake news and absurd claims. Surprisingly, this time it was far easier to get more accurate information more quickly from the Pakistani side than the Indian side. The Pakistanis actually even lifted the ban from X when this thing started. A surprise for many, including me, who have so far seen Pakistan as more problematic than India when it comes to free speech.
- Own Foreign Secretary goes in hiding after his daughter gets doxxed.
- A social media onslaught by organised troll farms. Personal attacks against international personalities/journalists/reporters, high levels of abuse, death and rape threats. Forcing even neutral people to pick a side.
- Embarrassed the French, who are mad. French media has been ripping into India.
- Complete turn around from the message of "this is the era of peace and trade" to "this is war". Leaves Indian hypocrisy exposed on int'l scale.
- Displeasing allies by rejecting third party mediation even as India itself has trotted around offering its role as a mediator in other conflicts. More hypocrisy exposed.
- Status of a pretending Great Power? Left in tatters. Bangladesh and Pakistan thinking of toasting a sandwich with the help of China.
- Foreign policy? Being questioned at home. No Indian ally was willing to openly and completely side with India, while Pakistan had China unconditionally standing on its side.
- Trump brings up Kashmir, something that delighted the Pakistanis and sent shockwaves in India.
- Failed to convince IMF against Pakistan. Had to remove own appointee. Still didn't work.
- Global image? Badly hit. Forget others, many foreigners who praise India publicly been making jokes about India privately.
I've probably missed a few things there, but this has been a major reality check for India. Should help them turn down that arrogance a notch or two, but that's unlikely. There are more lessons in store in the future.
The Indian military does not want to escalate. Their defense chiefs told the political leadership explicitly that they cannot guarantee an air op in Pakistan without facing serious risks. That led Modi to distance himself from the action until the results become clear. Well, the results came out and the result was the first Rafale kill in combat without even entering Pakistani territory. Panic ensued. It was then decided that the political leadership needs to be seen back in control as they order escalation in the form of drone swarms and projectile launches. The large scale Pakistani response that followed further made it clear that Pakistan isn't going to back down.
What did India achieve? It achieved to learn yet another lesson in the realities of warfare. When you go into the battlefield, all the war plans go out the window. And it's always foolish to overestimate yourself and underestimate your enemy.
The Indian military is actually a peacenik in this case. They don't want a war. They know the realities on the ground. But certain political lobbies want other things.
Those funeral photos from Pakistan? That's the Pakistani military sending a direct message to India. The message is: we remain undeterred and our policies remain unchanged even after your operation.
India would be wise to understand that the best resolution here is close door direct talks. Because whatever India has been trying so far isn't working.
Fresh milk is gaining market share again after boxed milk prices increased by over 20%
Milk prices in Pakistan became more expensive than France, Australia and some other developed nations after the latest tax increase, Bloomberg reported recently https://t.co/o4vtEFKopj
Pakistan is ending its agreements with six IPPs whose contracts have already expired.
Earlier, Pakistan continued purchasing power from them due to their strategic locations or favorable pricing. Additionally, there are nine other IPPs with their contracts expire in next 5 years
I'VE DONE IT AGAIN, ALHAMDULILLAH! 5th EVO title in the bag, but definitely not my last! This win is for Pakistan and everyone out there pushing boundaries! Onward and upward! And to my critics, I've still got it, baby! And I'm not done yet! 🇵🇰 🇵🇰
Salam,
I am sharing with the Nation the IPP data our team has evaluated on the cost of fuel, cost of capacity payments, and cost per unit paid to every IPP over the last full year. I am shocked to see this per unit data which government is paying on Nation’s behalf to the IPP for electricity capacity payment per unit and cost per unit which is causing this misery to Industrial, Commercial and Domestic consumers. Government is buying because of these IPP agreements, the highest electricity units at Rs 750 per unit from a power plant, while it is buying at an average of Rs 200 per unit from coal power plants. Above Rs 50 per unit from Wind and Solar. All below 20 percent of capacity and payment made to IPPs is Rs 1.95 Trillion and balance 160 Billion is under verification. Government is making capacity payments of Rs 140 billion to one plant at a 15 percent load factor, Rs 120 billion to another plant at a 17 percent load factor, and Rs 100 billion to a third plant at a 22 percent load factor. This totals to Rs 370 billion to just three plants. Running at 15 percent load factor all year.
All the IPP data, including the amount paid to each of them and the per unit cost to the nation from each IPP is now available. This is all due to the term "capacity payment" in the contracts, which allows plants to be highly over-invoiced, resulting in huge capacity payments to IPPs without producing electricity.
The solution is "No Capacity Payment", only payments for electricity purchases from the cheapest electricity suppliers. All IPPs should be treated as merchant plants like any other business, 52 percent are owned by the Government and 28 per percent are owned by Pakistan's Private Sector so 80 percent are owned by Pakistanis. Electricity being sold to us at Rs 60 per unit is only because of these corrupt contracts, mismanagement and incompetence. Please, all must rise against these agreements with 40 families to save your Country.

No one is questioning the additional fuel cost consumers are paying due to long term RLNG contracts with Qatar.
Due to must buy LNG's 9 cargos a month, the expensive power plants of RLNG (fuel cost Rs24.8/unit) have to run at the cost of keeping cheaper imported coal (Rs15.5/unit) largely idle.
Had the imported coal plants run at full capacity in June while none by RLNG plants, the fuel cost could have been lowered by Rs1.5/unit.
Its a sheer consumer loss
Imagine making a daig of mutton biryani, for maybe 10k. You invited guests, they didn't show up -- because there was traffic jam on the road that comes to your place.
You ate one late of biryani. That one plate of biryani now costs PKR 10k.
Same logic here.

A 20%+ real growth in income taxes, and sales tax has rarely ever been done. Budget has further deepened the net, rather than widening in
The speech talks about moving from consumption to investment oriented growth - but the budget fails to do that

#Budget2025 To understand Pakistan’s economic situation, let's take a look at our budget. (FY23 actuals)
To make things simple, imagine our budget is Rs100.
Where do we get Rs100 from, and where do we spend it?🧵
