Giraffe love to ruminate – but this doesn’t mean pondering a philosophical problem! Ruminating is the act carried out by specific animals to help them break down indigestible leaf matter into material that they can digest. #WorldGiraffeDay
We’re happy to share that two rare matuku-hūrepo (Australasian bittern) found severely emaciated and dehydrated in South Auckland last month are on the road to recovery at our #veterinary hospital. Read more - https://t.co/v5Q45SiyUP.
@VirginAtlantic flights AKL to LHR - price advertised on website is incorrect - advertised at lower price, go through to payment and authorise it, only for website to send us back to the beginning. Flight then $500 more. Same pattern if change date. No response to complaint…
Kākāpō survive on three small, predator-free islands, depending heavily on rimu fruit to breed. In the past, kākāpō were abundant across AoNZ - but rimu doesn't occur in all forests. So what did the birds eat? Fossilised scat sheds light.

#kakapo chicks are hatching almost daily here on Anchor. Checking on Waa’s nest last night, here’s Waa-A3 (1 day old), and Waa-A4, which should hatch soon. I keep saying it, but am loving seeing eggs hatch in nests rather than incubators. #kakapo2022#conservation
Great to see that Gulliver has mated on Whenua Hou: he’s of Fiordland descent, and is the only #kakapo with some MHC alleles (disease resistance genes). Also that Solstice is mating with a bird other than Stumpy - she may have more fertile eggs this time?! #kakapo2022
Well, that’s a bit of a surprise. Spring rimu counts for the #kakapo islands are *massive: higher than they’ve ever been. This means pretty much all adult females will breed this summer - and maybe even on Te Kakahu/Chalky, our new breeding site. #conservation#parrots
