In 2025 Mexico traded $873 bn in goods with the US. It also drew a record $41 bn in FDI, although roughly 2/3 of this came from firms already in Mexico reinvesting profits. This and a lot more in my analysis for @EconObservatory@LSEPublicPolicy 🤓📚📉📈📊 https://t.co/HtSxvTmJXu

Having been involved in budgetary negotiations in Spain, I agree completely: investment is the residual once pensions and healthcare are funded. That is where the political pressure is, and the rest is leftovers. Policy in the West comes down to demographics.
A pleasure to share my reflection for @ChathamHouse on USMCA: “The most important outcome is that the USMCA will continue to provide a blanket. How much this blanket will cover, for how long, and how often it is washed, is up for discussion.” @LSEnews@LSEPublicPolicy@McLartyAssoc@COMEXI 🤓🌎
It was truly an honour to have Jorge Arce,CEO of @HSBC_MX and Latam at @LSEnews Mexico Week organised by the Mx students. We had an insightful conversation on the investment climate and opportunities in Mx vis a vis domestic and international challenges. 🙌🤓📚🇲🇽🌎@LSEPublicPolicy
Mexico+the US have one of the most complex bilateral relationships: +than 30 mill.people of Mx origin live in the US+1.6 mill.Americans live in Mx.They are each other’s most important trading partner+share a 1,954-mile border. My article @ChathamHouse https://t.co/PXQW2EcJhP
High public-debt burdens mean that relying on state pension promises is no longer as attractive as it once was. Europe needs to transition to a more market-based system. But it will take time https://t.co/7QoRhhEL7a
Bill Clinton, Boomer-maxxing:
Clinton's own counsel: "Have you ever sent an email Mr. President?"
Clinton: "I sent one email to John Glenn... when he was in space... and I sent [one] to...a ship...during the Kosovo War... Since then, I'm not sure I've sent one."
Whenever Mexico scores a victory in the "drug war," I always think of one number: 17%
That is the percentage of Mexico's GDP the govt collects in taxes -- one of the LOWEST ratios in Latin America, below regional avg of 22% and half avg of OECD nations
Can Mexico's government win a lasting battle against cartels with formidable private armies, underpinned by billions of dollars in cocaine money, when it has one of the region's most under-resourced states?
In coming days you will hear a lot about Mexico's ability to hold and control territory, especially as cartels lash out following death of "El Mencho."
But I always wonder if lasting progress can truly be made, beyond occasional "spectacular" kill of a capo, without a stronger and better-funded Mexican state.
Intense and great day at @LSEPublicPolicy: Taking a group of our students to the @EBRD headquarters, having the head of Governance at @worldbankgroup speak to a cohort from LATAM and having former Minister of Finance of Canada speak to our Double Degree @munkschool generation. Thank you Vicky, Arturo and Bill for sharing your knowledge with the future policy-shapers of the world! 🤩🤓🙌🌍🌎
Happy to share a new paper, “Market Perceptions of ESG Reputational Risk in the U.S. Pharmaceutical Industry,” where we study how markets price ESG reputational risk and what it means for firms’ sustainability strategies and stakeholder value.
