⚡️🛠️ A Zig-fueled implementation for the JAM protocol

[JamZig @jamzig_dev]

🚀 Putting #ziglang on the map with the #jam Protocol! Honored to present to @gavofyork and grateful for his inspiring graypaper – a true magnus opus 🎉. Thanks to @JAMdotTech for bringing everyone together and to @danicuki for the Italian spirit (and pizza!) to the table🍕🇮🇹

I can’t stress enough how little an idea matters compared to the agency of the people executing the idea.

I have had the privilege of knowing and sometimes even working with some of the most successful people (by various metrics).

The difference between mediocre and excellent work and outcomes is predominantly one of agency.

In practice this means: they dont wait for things to happen to them they go out and make things happen for them.

They don’t wait for someone else to do something, for someone to teach them, for someone to give them the path, etc. They just go out and find a way to do it.

I think the single biggest superpower these people have is the realization/belief that the world around them is completely mutable. Most everything that happens is because a person made it happen.

I used to tell people to look around the room you’re sitting in. Look at everything. Every noun. It almost all exists because a person willed it into existence. Nothing is stopping you from doing the same.

I see people online all the time dismissing someone else’s success because “I had that idea first” or whatever. I mean… yeah? If so then the difference is… you. So a bit of a self own whenever I hear that.

Number one tip: act with agency.

@jam_brains @gavofyork @_davxy_ @bkchr Congrats to you as well. Indeed!

JamZig⚡passed the M1 interview

The grilling was tough and worth it. I came out with a deeper, more nuanced understanding of the JAM protocol and the subtle design choices beneath it. Plenty more to uncover

Gratitude to @gavofyork, @_davxy_, @bkchr, and Jan Bujak

Onto M2 🚀

[JamZig @jamzig_dev]

We have not yet begun the actual performance optimizations for JamZig⚡, but @ziglang already shows promise. It is slightly faster than some of the highly optimized teams in the simplest path execution path. 👉https://t.co/gWQ9sL3bVD

JamZig passed the full JAM GP 0.7.2 conformance suite ⚡️

Minifuzz → L2a → L2b → L3a → L3b. All green.

Zig-implemented JAM target. 1M-step fuzz, Safrole on, full-spec lanes.

🚀M1 MILESTONE: COMPLETE! 🚀

W3F Auditor Piet Wolff successfully fuzzed JamZig⚡ with 1M blocks using the fuzzer by @_davxy_. A massive win for the project as we move into the M1 Fellowship Review! 🤝

Next up? M2: Networking Implementation. ⚡️

Spent my free Sunday well visualising block execution 🚀 Optimised ~40% speed boosts on some execution paths!⚡️ Looking forward to the dashboard next performance run 🤠

Always a Joy working on the brilliant #JAMProtocol design of @gavofyork . ✨ @ziglang @_davxy_ @Polkadot

First look at overall performance across JAM Implementors. Polkajam leads; JamZig (pure Zig language) is already competitive with debug logs enabled. Stripped benches coming soon — and yes, we expect to push this up! ⚡🤠

OMG! We now have 6+ JAM implementers with 100% clear JAM Conformance with a clear bill of health!

Throughout August, teams have posted a JAM "fuzz target" that receive challenging state transitions to ensure implementations conform to JAM spec. The implementations pass or fail each test case.

This is the future of @polkadot, which as always leads the whole of the Web3 industry.

and ... we are now ADDICTED to conformance 😅😂🤣😇

If you don’t have time to watch the full video, here are the key takeaways we’ve put together for you.🫶

3 JAM client devs shared major updates:

🦀FastRoll (Rust) by @0xjunha
🍎 Boka (Swift) by @XiliangChen from @AcalaNetwork
⚡ Jamzig (Zig) by Boy Mass from @polana_network

They revealed progress on Milestone 1, insights from @Web3summit, and thoughts on PoP, ZK, and JAM governance. Here’s a recap 👇🧵

1/

Milestone 1 = JAM’s first big checkpoint

Clients must:

- Import and validate blocks
- Run runtime logic
- Output the correct post-state

A JAM fuzzer generates randomized blocks. If all clients produce the same state root, they pass Milestone 1.

2/

When testnet?

Testnet won’t go live until Milestone 2 is complete.

Why? Milestone 1 only tests runtime execution — not networking.

Milestone 2 will add peer-to-peer protocols. Only then can a proper JAM testnet form.

3/

Thoughts on Gavin’s major reforms announced at Web3 Summit

Bryan’s take: PoP could drastically cut security costs

Both PoS and PoW rely on high inflationary rewards.

PoP may:

- Reduce inflation
- Free up DOT for DeFi
- Align long-term value with utility

But: with staking yields reduced, user behavior will change — and the transition must be handled carefully.

4/

Thoughts on ZK + JAM?

All 3 devs agree:

- JAM can host ZK-powered rollups today
- JAM itself using ZK for security is still too early
- But it could happen — if zk tech gets 100x faster

Hybrid models might emerge.

5/

Thoughts on JAM Governance = Grey Paper + Editorial Board

Gavin remains chief editor.
A new technical board will co-maintain the spec.

🧠 Junha: JAM is “spec-first” — paper comes before code.
🛡️ Bryan: Transparency and rigor are critical.
✅ Boy: Committees help preserve protocol integrity.

6/

Polana x JAM: Solana SVM running on JAM

Boy Mass announced:

“You can now take Solana bytecode, deploy it to JAM, and it just works — with cross-program invocations!”

This makes JAM a universal execution layer. Huge for multi-chain future.

7/

The big picture:

JAM is the secure, modular compute layer.

But users won’t interact with JAM directly — they’ll use services built on top of JAM.

Core devs urge the community to:

- Read the Grey Paper
- Build apps
- Help refine the protocol

8/

Final words:

JAM isn’t just a new chain — it’s a new paradigm.

“We’re underestimating what JAM can unlock. The bandwidth it offers hasn’t been seen in blockchain before.” — Boy Mass

[PolkaWorld @polkaworld_org]

Gavin just dropped a bold yet elegant idea:

Fix DOT’s total supply at π × 10⁹ (approx. 3.14B) — hardcoded into the JAM genesis block.
