@Sportingmarie@ingridmileyRTE Marie tbh I’m not interested in X arguments , but to be clear , the State would have to find an additional €20 billion every single year in care hours for our most vulnerable citizens if there were no family carers . Not a made up figure .
@Sportingmarie@ingridmileyRTE Marie , I would argue that Carers save the State a lot of money ( €20 billion per year ) and the application is rigorous and care needs required to be significant if granted . Care given to our most vulnerable with love and dedication should be recognised and valued in my view.
@Sportingmarie@ingridmileyRTE Carers save the State €20 billion every year with no statutory rights to even one day off or to retire when aging and work 247 /365 what we need are Rights and also widows pension will never replace the love and dedication of my sons Dad. Lump sum more than worked for.
"There are thousands of carers out there who get nothing for the care that they give their loved one and it's so wrong, it's very demeaning. You just feel so unvalued." Family carer Niamh Ryan supporting the abolition of the means test on @LatedebateRTE. 🔗https://t.co/MUG47kYrhu

@60_sandy We are a family and the ref was about family and care , my sons are entirely dependent on me for their care , that’s what I wanted recognition of and for the State to work with us rather than against us . Personally , I just don’t engage with threads re carers vs Disabilty
@60_sandy Also can you with respect provide details on what care supports were stopped by FCI ? They have been an immense support to my family and many , many families I know throughout the country . I just think it’s important to acknowledge that .
One thing that strikes me about the #CareRef is that all sides of the debate care about care. As a society and as a state, there is widespread recognition that we need to do more to support those who give and receive care. The big question is how to achieve that in this ref. 🧵
Work of carers on show at my polling station this morning, with lots of people being supported by carers to allow them to get out and exercise their vote on the Constitution, critical in preventing vulnerable groups from being disenfranchised, esp on issues of direct concern.
@id_dad@McNiffecent@DaveL2007@TomClonan@AccessForAll7@DisabilityFed@GarNob As we all do guys , we all make decisions based on what we believe is best for our families but we may not always make the same decisions. Regardless of the outcome of the referendum, we will all undoubtedly have endless battles ahead so the let there be healing ❤️🩹 and unity
