Today, I addressed the 11th Ordinary Session of the @APRMorg National Secretariats Coordinating Committee (NSCC), reaffirming that the APRM’s work can only achieve real impact when our National Secretariats are strong, functional and fully equipped to drive implementation at country level.
I briefed members of the NSCC on key programmes and initiatives being undertaken to strengthen APRM structures, including the Model Law on the establishment of National Structures, the Governance Support Programme, the APRM Structures Audit Framework, capacity-building initiatives, and the development of the Africa Governance Index.
As Uganda now chairs the APRM, we are also aligning efforts around its Two-Year Strategic Agenda, including renewed focus on the 13 bottlenecks hindering Africa’s socio-economic transformation.
Our collective priority remains clear: strengthening national structures to move the APRM from diagnosis to implementation, with impact and tangible results.
In our quest to move from diagnosis to implementation, the @APRMorg is reviewing two key legal instruments: the Model Law on the Establishment of National Structures and the Legal Instrument on the APRM Governance Support Programme.
This exercise responds to gaps identified at national level, including the establishment of APRM structures and the partial implementation of National Programme of Action recommendations.
Through this process, the APRM seeks to strengthen Member States’ capacity, mobilise resources, and ensure governance assessments translate into concrete action and measurable impact.
“Credit ratings shape the economic destiny of our countries, determining access to capital, cost of borrowing, and ultimately our development trajectory.”
As part of celebrating 23 years of the @APRMorg, we hosted a high-level public lecture in partnership with the @UPTuks, convening policymakers, academics, and thought leaders to unpack the impact of credit ratings on AU Member States.
We were honoured to be joined by Hon. @AmosLugoloobi, Uganda’s APRM Focal Point, and Hon. Inkosi Mzamo Buthelezi, South Africa’s @thedpsa Minister and APRM Focal Point, underscoring strong political commitment to advancing Africa’s governance and financial architecture.
The dialogue reinforced the urgency of operationalising the African Credit Rating Agency (AfCRA), a critical step toward fairer, more transparent, and context-driven assessments of African economies.
This milestone moment also marked the launch of our first Governance Voices newsletter, a platform dedicated to amplifying African perspectives and thought leadership on governance and development.
From strengthening Africa’s voice in the global financial system to shaping future policy discourse, the work continues.

Today I received the Deputy Chairperson of the @_AfricanUnion Commission, H.E. Amb. @SelmaHaddadi at our new @APRMorg premises in Centurion, South Africa.
During our engagement, we briefed her on the APRM’s latest achievements, including recently completed peer review reports, key initiatives currently underway, and preparations for upcoming flagship deliverables such as the #AGR and the operationalisation of the Africa Credit Rating Agency (#AfCRA).
We also exchanged views on administrative matters and on further strengthening the effectiveness of the APRM mandate to ensure the delivery of tangible governance results across the continent.
I extend my sincere appreciation to my sister for her reinforced commitment to our work and unwavering support to the APRM.
I am always inspired to engage with young people who are committed to communicating the work we do and inspiring their peers to engage and participate meaningfully, especially in high-level spaces such as the ongoing #AUsummit in Addis Ababa.
This is how we shape the #AfricaWeWant, by owning our narrative and telling Africa’s story ourselves.

Kenya can now continue exporting goods to the US duty-free after AGOA was extended to December 2026.
This move is set to push Kenya to open its market wider to American goods, services and investors.
The African Union reform process remains a critical and timely undertaking, driven by evolving continental and global realities, rising expectations from African citizens, and the urgent need for the Union to respond more effectively to peace, development, and integration challenges.
This reform agenda is essential to ensuring that the African Union remains fit for purpose, responsive to the needs and aspirations of Member States and the African people while strengthening coherence, efficiency, and accountability across its institutions.
In my capacity as Champion for African Union Institutional Reform, I chaired the Third (Virtual) Session of the Ad Hoc Oversight Committee of Heads of State and Government on African Union Institutional Reform.
Present at the session were Presidents John Dramani Mahama (Ghana), Hakainde Hichilema (Zambia), and Évariste Ndayishimiye (Burundi), alongside the Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, the AU High Representative for Financing, Donald Kaberuka, and high-level representatives from Angola, Tanzania, Tunisia, Congo, among others.
When you didn’t know better, you did the best you could. Period. You didn’t have the wisdom you have now. You didn’t have the lessons, the scars, the prayers, or the experience. So why you sittin’ here beatin’ yourself up like you were supposed to know then what you know now?
Today, at our staff retreat, I reflected on the progress achieved since our last retreat and commended colleagues for their resilience, teamwork, and shared accomplishments, while also underscoring the need for higher standards of professionalism.
Looking ahead, I announced that the @APRMorg will become the first @_AfricanUnion institution to roll out basic AI skills training for all staff, building core competencies in artificial intelligence in line with our e-governance mandate and our commitment to lead by example.
At AfroClimate, we believe that clean kitchens mean healthy lives; and that every household, urban or rural, deserves the dignity of safe, modern energy.
What step can you take today to support clean kitchens and healthy lives across Africa?
Congrats to Mena Tsook, winner of the “Regenerating the Ocean” award at #BlueInvestAfrica2025!

I had the honor of attending the Farewell Ceremony of a transformative leader, Prof. Benedict Oramah, outgoing President and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the African Export-Import Bank (@afreximbank ), and the Investiture Ceremony of the new President and CEO of Afreximbank, Dr. George Elombi, in New Cairo, Egypt🇪🇬. Prof. Benedict Oramah was instrumental in supporting the @APRMorg through Afreximbank to establish the Africa-led, Africa-owned, private-sector-driven, funded, and self-sustainable Africa Credit Rating Agency #AfCRA . I look forward to deepening the APRM and Afreximbank partnership under Dr. George Elombi’s able leadership. Together, we can ensure the swift realization of the @_AfricanUnion Agenda 2063 with impactful, tangible results.
