Fascinating to hear so many priests -
In all parts of Ireland - say they are heartened by the increasing openness to Faith from so many young people. Something quiet, but real, is happening.
Today Good Shepherd Sunday, Vocations Sunday, the Fourth Sunday of Easter, we pray that more may hear the call to discern a vocation to the priesthood or religious life, let us do all we can to foster and encourage vocations @KANDLEi@theway_ie@KandLeYouth@IrishCathNews
In recent years, many young people have approached the faith through social media, successful programs and popular online Christian witnesses. The danger is that a faith discovered online is limited to individual experiences, which may be intellectually and emotionally reassuring, but never “embodied.” Such experiences remain “disembodied,” detached from the “ecclesial body.”
Launching @CatholicBishops Pastoral ‘Why Sunday Matters’ at the 10.30am Mass today in @CarlowCathedral an invitation to reflect on Sunday Mass, “Sunday offers the rhythm to our week, rhythm, routine and ritual are critical in all our lives” @KANDLEi@theway_ie
At Mass in @CarlowCathedral@BishopDNulty launches new pastoral message on behalf of @CatholicBishops: “We don’t go to Mass out of duty …. We receive the Eucharist and become the Body of Christ. This is ‘Why Sunday Matters’.”

Dear priests, thank you for your lives given in service to the Kingdom, for your daily efforts, for what you endure in silence, which is sometimes accompanied by suffering or misunderstanding. You are all precious in the eyes of God and essential in fulfilling His plan.
Today is Good Shepherd Sunday, a day to pray for vocations and for all those discerning God’s call.
As Pope Francis reminds us:
“The Church needs pastors … capable of saying yes to the Lord with trust and hope.”
Here in the Diocese of Kildare & Leighlin, Fr. Ruairí Ó Domhnaill is our Vocations Director. If you’re wondering whether God might be calling you, he’s always happy to chat.
Email: [email protected]@KANDLEi@BishopDNulty
“O Jesus, send labourers into your fields which are awaiting holy apostles, saintly priests, heroic missionaries and dedicated sisters and brothers.
Enkindle in the hearts of men and women the spark of a vocation.
Grant that Christian families may desire to give your Church
helpers in the work of tomorrow.”
A little boy asked why we ring the bell during the Mass.
“You’ve seen movies, how when the King arrives the people play trumpets and ring bells? Well, we ring bells during the Mass because the King is truly here.”
Now he wants to ring the bell.
Drive-through confession. Five years ago in early COVID lockdowns, our pastor responded by offering the sacrament of confession outdoor, spaced out, with penitent in the car. I asked to take a picture because I thought it would be a memorable experience. I know the lockdowns were hard on a lot of people, but I want to celebrate the priests who got creative to keep offering the sacraments.
