Gas and electricity bills going up by 25% from January and they want to give Ukraine 10 billion pounds! I just don’t understand anything anymore. Does anything in our lives make sense? We are all being shafted at the highest levels. It’s just not sustainable. We have the highest energy bills in the whole of Europe.

Following the proposed changes to payment of tax under self assessment, I've tried to model the potential real world impact on sole traders and partners. It's not easy because life is complicated.

Many businesses don't have a great first half of the year, making most of their profit from October onwards. These are going to suffer the worst - being forced to pay tax on income they haven't even earned yet.

There will also be a painful transitional year, although the Government is considering ways to soften the impact without changing the overall effect.

Some relatively modest changes, like paying tax monthly with a 3 month delay, could make a big difference to whether businesses can cope.

The Government has stated it is continuing to work with stakeholders on the timing and frequency of payments. It should accept that the natural business cycle means demanding tax on income before it is earned would be wrong, and any change to current rules must accommodate that commercial reality.

The Government is implementing visa salary requirement changes from spring 2027 that will reduce 'occupation-specific minimum salary thresholds from the median to the 25th percentile of wages'.

In short, making it FAR easier for firms to hire migrants.

Why are they lowering barriers to overseas workers instead of training British men and women?

Today's Budget halves the lifetime limit for Business Asset Disposal Relief, from £1m to £500,000.

Tax on that sale was about £180,000.

Now it is about £210,000.

That is £30,000 less for the owner.

Just a suggestion for anyone who is the focal point of ANY story by mainstream media, either written or tv. If they follow you, turn up at your house, confront you or take photos of you whilst with family members, post any photos of anywhere that ca be identified then IMMEDIATELY make a police complaint about the fear, distress, harassment and genuine fear of violence it has caused to you, your family, your children. Do it every single time to EVERY mainstream journalist. Overwhelm them and the police with reports and potential legal cases.

The precedent has now been set, so it must be used. Whoever you are, whatever your story is, turn it around on them and make formal complaints.

Tonight, my family and I experienced something no family should ever have to go through.

Our restaurant, Singh’s Dining Restaurant in Hammersmith, was attacked by a group of Islamists.
We had been receiving death threats every single day, including one that specifically warned us that 28 October would be our last day.

We raised our concerns, and the @metpoliceuk were aware of the threats. Yet tonight, we found ourselves facing the very nightmare we had feared.

My daughter had to close the shutters just in time. I cannot even begin to imagine what might have happened if she hadn’t acted so quickly. We could have lost someone in our family tonight.
The attackers reportedly tried for a long time to break through the shutters to get inside, leaving shortly before the police arrived.

We have serious concerns about how the attackers knew when to leave, and whether they were alerted before the police arrived. These concerns deserve a thorough and transparent investigation.
Tonight, I am left facing a heartbreaking decision, Do we keep our doors open and risk our lives, or do we shut down the business we have worked so hard to build because I don’t serve Halal food.

No family should ever have to choose between their livelihood and their safety. No one should have to live in fear in their own place of work.

I am angry. I am heartbroken. I am frightened for my family’s safety.
I am calling on the @metpoliceuk to take these threats seriously, investigate tonight’s attack thoroughly, and ensure that my family is protected.
Please share this post. Let our voices be heard. We should not have to wait for someone to lose their life before our safety is taken seriously.

How do seasonal businesses do this?

In Lincs the two biggest sectors are tourism and agriculture.

Both seasonal.

For both income is very focused around certain times.

The idea an arable farmer, a seaside hotel, attraction or holiday park has 1/4 of its annual income by April is laughably ignorant.

Except it’s a deadly serious threat to the businesses’ survival.
