This summer, I was selected to participate in the 2026 Appalachian STEM Academy high school program in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. Over the course of two weeks, I was able to learn alongside students from 13 states across the Appalachian region at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory.
🚨 HOW HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL RECRUITS SHOULD REACH OUT TO COLLEGE COACHES ON SOCIAL MEDIA 🚨
Social media is a recruiting tool. Treat it professionally.
College coaches evaluate more than film:
✅ Communication
✅ Maturity
✅ Consistency
✅ Professionalism
✅ Coachability
1️⃣ Build a coach friendly profile
Include:
• Name
• Grad Year
• Position
• Height/Weight
• School & State
• GPA
• Hudl/Film Link
• Coach Contact Info
Make it easy for coaches to evaluate you.
2️⃣ Follow the RIGHT coaches
Don’t only follow the Head Coach.
Most evaluations begin with:
• Position Coach
• Area Recruiter
• Recruiting Coordinator
• Personnel Staff
3️⃣ Keep your first DM short & professional
Example:
“Coach, my name is John Smith. I’m a 2027 WR from Central HS (PA). I’m 6’1 180 with a 3.6 GPA. I wanted to introduce myself and share my film for evaluation.”
Include:
• Film Link
• Contact Info
• Coach Contact
4️⃣ Personalize messages
Do NOT copy/paste the same DM to every school.
Mention:
• Scheme fit
• Camp plans
• Visits
• Academic interests
• Why you fit their program
5️⃣ Your FILM matters more than edits
✅ Best plays first
✅ Easy to access
✅ Jersey # visible
✅ Varsity film labeled
❌ No long intros needed
6️⃣ Don’t spam coaches
No response does NOT always mean no interest.
❌ “???”
❌ “Did you watch my film?”
❌ Angry posts/messages
Be mature and professional.
7️⃣ Follow up with PURPOSE
Good reasons:
• Updated film
• New stats
• Verified testing
• Academic updates
• Camp schedule
8️⃣ Use social media wisely
Post:
✅ Film
✅ Training clips
✅ Academic achievements
✅ Team success
✅ Leadership moments
Coaches evaluate character too.
9️⃣ Tag coaches carefully
❌ Don’t tag 50 coaches in one post.
Better approach:
• DM directly
• Tag your school/recruiting staff
• Keep posts professional
🔟 Keep your high school coach involved
College coaches value communication with HS coaches because they help verify:
• Character
• Work ethic
• GPA
• Competition level
• Football IQ
1️⃣1️⃣ Don’t chase fake attention
🚨 A follow is NOT an offer
🚨 A like is NOT an offer
🚨 A camp invite is NOT an offer
REAL interest looks like:
✅ Transcript requests
✅ Live evaluations
✅ Consistent communication
✅ Campus visits
✅ Scheme conversations
🏈 BOTTOM LINE:
Be organized, respectful, coachable, and easy to evaluate.
Professionalism matters

"If they're detained and supposed to be here, PROVE it, then they'll be released!"

Question each year from parents/K/P/LS
“My kid wants to kick in college, where do we start? What camps should we attend?”
In today’s college football recruiting world you have to have a plan, & even then it’s challenging & overwhelming
I address this & more at this camp ⬇️
@LaHeemavich Martinsburg doesn’t even fill up with semi final games—
Everyone watches the stream on TV 10
On the flip side gives the fans easier ride home— get a hotel Friday night versus Saturday night
@LetsGoEers1304 @SportsTalk_304 I said the national rankings are flawed. Why then looking at the top 25 Boys HS teams there is only 10 states represented in the 25. If it was truly reflective there would be a greater composition of states in the ranking.
@SportsTalk_304 Agree — I said kudos— just the ranking system is very flawed— when utilized by schools that must fill their schedules with schools in states that don’t utilize Max Preps— it negatively impacts their in state rankings
