software engineering is about to get really hard. all the easier stuff that used to take time is now in the hands of every nerdy minded individual on the planet.
the moat is going to be wide and deep.
subject matter expertise is going to be essential moving forward.
This is a bitter pill to swallow after spending 10+ years coding.
But you can either be the person clinging to the reins of their horse or the person who steps into a car because they see driving as the future.
Our industry is in the fuck around phase right now but all people who have been in open source for longer than a decade know that we’re gonna move to the find out phase very quickly
No one’s going to thank you for working a job you hate. Life isn’t a moralistic TV show where the person suffering is rewarded for their virtue. In real life people hate you for being miserable.
I was a programmer my entire life, worked extremely hard, very successful, my code made millions…
Last night, I spoke to Xcode and told it to create a Swift app for MacOS that had a drop zone for HTML files and to convert the animation into 4k still screenshots and assemble them into a ProRes 422 .MOV.
Kept editing in Final Cut Pro and 20 minutes later, 2400 lines of code were written and it works absolutely beautifully. It added common quality of life features without asking.
I do not recommend anyone start down the traditional programming path. AI is the disruptive technology that turns entire industries upside down. Learn accordingly.
One day, your home will be empty, and someone will have to decide what to do with your things. They'll open your drawers. They'll find the watch you treasured so much, the car you spent three years paying off, and the clothes you saved for special occasions because you didn't want to wear them out. And they'll make three piles: what to sell, what to give away, and what to throw away. None of it goes with you. Not a single thing. The only thing that goes with you is that afternoon you stayed talking for hours and didn't even realize where the time went. The look on your mom's face when you showed up to visit her without telling her you were coming. Don't collect things... Collect moments with the people you love
You gotta maintain a lightness to your heart because turning into a bitter loser obsessed with how people have done you wrong is the most off-putting and unrewarding way a person can choose to be
People seem shocked that the author of Clean Code doesn't read code anymore. But that should not be surprising.
Why did I write Clean Code? What is the goal of keeping code clean? To get it out of the way of the real job -- thinking.
Okay, from 2 months I have been studying inference engineering aggressively and the understanding I have right now about LLMs is pretty good compared to how I started.
Need to make some good projects but I don’t know where to start from. Can you guys please help
a lot of people’s sense of self now is built on a foundation of envy, which is the decay from suppressing your desires. so many look to justify this avoidance of self by ascribing morality to their failures; then the misery compounds bc its rewarded with company on social media
I don't care how clever you think you are, the era of writing code is over and eventually everyone who built their identity around being a programmer is going to find themselves unemployable.
TLDR of the job market rn:
No one bets on anyone. Everyone wants big-name people from flashy startups, but when it comes to early-stage experience, suddenly you’re “too risky.” They want the track record without taking the risk that creates it.
software eng lifecycle:
>wants to be a game dev
>only jobs are for saas engineers
>forced to sling javascript for $$$
>ai learns to slop out javascript faster than you
>unemployed
>finally time to be a game dev
