This is the real deal. Dr Ibrahim Bangura is not just a scholar, he’s a practitioner of good governance and a highly grassroots oriented person. He’s the right choice for Sierra Leone 🇸🇱
Flagbearer Aspirant of the Main Opposition All People Congress #APC and Academic in the University of Sierra Leone and University of Oxford, @Dibrahimbangura has in his recent research paper titled “From the Streets to the World: Youth Resistance and the Reimagining of Global Futures In Madagascar,” explores the 2025 youth-led uprisings in Madagascar, which were sparked by severe economic hardship and utility shortages culminating in a military coup.
He highlights how Generation Z activists utilized digital tools and social media to bypass state censorship, fostering a global imaginary of resistance inspired by similar international movements.
While these young protesters successfully challenged President Andry Rajoelina’s authority, the research notes a recurring historical pattern where political elites eventually sideline youth voices during formal transition negotiations.
@Dibrahimbangura argues that achieving long-term stability requires moving beyond mere crisis management to create genuine pathways for youth inclusion in governance.
The research positions Malagasy youth not just as victims of poverty, but as powerful political actors capable of reshaping their nation's trajectory and international standing.

There is a dangerous pattern in our politics that we must confront honestly.
Recent statements by the SLPP Chairman suggesting that the APC should be “killed” or made not to exist are deeply troubling. Such rhetoric has no place in a democratic society. Political parties are not enemies to be destroyed, they are representatives of the people, protected by the very principles of democracy.
History offers us a clear lesson. In the 1960s, Sir Albert Margai used state power in attempts to suppress the APC, through intimidation, restrictions on opposition activity, and even moves toward a one party state. Yet, despite those efforts, the APC did not die. Instead, it grew stronger, more resilient, and ultimately gained the confidence of the people.
The lesson is simple, you cannot eliminate an idea whose time has come. You cannot silence a people determined to be heard.
Today, rather than repeating the mistakes of the past, we should be strengthening democratic tolerance, respecting political diversity, and allowing the will of the people, not threats or intimidation, to decide the future.
