Elizabeth Warren turned out to be one of the most profound disappointments imaginable as a Senator. Presented as a technocrat interested in what works, actually the absolute worst of the slopulists.
What makes an American is being a citizen. No citizen is *more* American than anyone else. How good an American depends on what they do with that citizenship.
When the 75th Pennsylvania, all German-American immigrants, fought on the 1st day at Gettysburg, they lost 72% of their men. Their commander, Francis Mahler, was wounded twice but kept on fighting (he died 3 days later of those wounds). His brother, Lt Louis Mahler, died in the same fight. They were brave Americans who deserve our praise.
The 442nd Infantry Regiment was composed of 2nd-generation Japanese-Americans. They volunteered even though many of their families were in internment camps. They faced bitter combat in the Italian campaign and became the most decorated military unit in US history (4000 Purple Hearts, 4000 Bronze Stars, and 21 Medals of Honor). They were Americans of immeasurable status.
My buddy is a Mayflower descendant, and my dad was born in Saxony, but we're both equally American (I'm actually a bit more flag-wavy than he is!)
Wanye spends his time muttering that "you fools don't understand the is/ought distinction," but he's pounding this topic because he thinks long-time Americans *ought* to have more status and is frustrated that, in practice, this is not so.
@Michael_Druggan thx for the reply. i'm currently on a cut and i've always been curious how serious folks hit their macros. bulk seems more difficult, i imagine probably go off it or seriously reduce the dosage.
part of the reason i get annoyed about the media's hand-wringing over the general mood/misogyny of young american men is bc NO ONE platforms anyone on the receiving end. imagine being a teen girl in hs stuck in a room with these screeching losers for 40 hours/week trying to learn
Everyone who advocates for "walkable dense cities" with mixed zoning must understand they work when, and only when, people trust each other and don't mind living close together and sharing stuff, like subways and buses and that only happens if you punish, lock up, and remove the bad actors.
You can't have your abundance unless you put at the very top of the policy pyramid zero tolerance for disorder. Your citizens must trust each other or else your dense cities means fetid dangerous cities that few want to live in, other than the super rich who can buy private security
Liz’s problem was expecting to be accepted as left wing while also having some conservative views based in her religion. That’s something you are allowed to do if you’re brown but forbidden if you’re a white woman.
One of the great things about India, and Japan, and basically the entire world, other than a few well-to-do westerners, is they have no problem taking the best from other cultures, and mashing it up into their own.
Desi hip hop, while not my thing, is a thing and it should be a thing.
Cultural appropriation is the dumbest of the various self loathing views that western elites traffic in that nobody else gives a crap about.
