Parents: Stop:
Coaching from the stands
Yelling at refs
Lecturing your kids after games
Talking about teammates
Telling your kids to ignore coaching
Playing the blame game
Making failure unacceptable
You don’t need to coach. Be supportive. Offer encouragement & just love them!
Youth basketball in America needs more skill work/practices + 3 on 3 and less games per week.
Way too many games are played. The real growth is in the skill work and 3 on 3 allows more reads/decision making.
European youth basketball has mastered this formula
For any High School players & parents saying freshmen and sophomores shouldn’t play varsity and need to “pay their dues.”
Sorry — 1980 is over. If they’re good enough, they’re playing varsity. Period. Guess you’re going to have to adjust.
Maybe I’m old school but coaches that give excuses and blame talent level, as to why you aren’t winning, set a bad double standard with their players
• Tells players you don’t think they are good enough
• Creates a culture of excuses
Slippery Slope
Parents...
I'm begging you - please let coaches coach - I've heard two stories in the last 24 hours of really good coaches that are leaving simply because of parents.
If your coach has the team winning a ton, it generally means they know what they're doing. Let them coach.
