As crookED Emmerson prepares to welcome regional leaders to Harare, he does so against a backdrop of violence, intimidation, torture, and repression targeting activists, trade unionists, and political opponents.

Some of his victims include:
- Robson Chere, a trade unionist who was tortured for eight hours at Robert Mugabe International Airport.
- Namatai Kwekweza, a young female activist who was abducted from a plane.
- A mother with a one-year-old child, who is currently in jail.
- Seventy-eight political activists, led by Jameson Timba, who are also imprisoned.

As crookED Emmerson rolls out the red carpet for the SADC leaders, beneath it lies the blood of pro-democracy activists who have been beaten and tortured over the past month.
The world and these SADC leaders must be aware of this!

The stark contrast between the pomp and ceremony of the SADC summit and the brutal reality of human rights abuses occurring in Zimbabwe is jarring.

It’s not Robson that’s in prison. It’s the right to quality education and decent pay for teachers.

It’s not the #Avondale78 that are in prison. It’s the right of young people to freely assemble and commemorate days that are important to them.

It’s not Samuel Gwenzi that’s in prison. It’s the right of local authorities to manage their own affairs and champion devolution.

🟣Sending a man to jail in this freezing weather for no reason except that he allowed young people to have a Youth Day braai at his home is crazy business.

The weaponization of the legal system to punish people you do not like is a dangerous new low for this Govt. Sen @JamesonTimba is not a criminal nor are the young people who were peacefully and privately gathering at his home to commemorate the Soweto Uprising. Free them now.

Does it make sense to build brand new luxury villas for @SADC_News leaders while the country faces its worst hunger crisis in over three decades? If 1 in 2 Zimbabweans is food insecure, are we not worse than nations at war? Should feeding the population not be top priority over this needless flex with money we don’t have? Can they not stay at the Hyatt?
