@shindubitably yes i thought the same idea. it seems like throughout the poem he is implying that we as humans are stuck in a habitual cycle with no escape other than death. and the new dawn is supposed to be an optimistic glimpse into the future, but clearly it is not #laylit20

@aking_dididindu the dark imagery definitely contrasts the dawn symbolism. although this poem focuses on death, the dawn is there to remind the reader of the never-ending cycle of life and how death will one day conquer. #laylit20

@Nanditaa_K i agree. it felt as if he was finally being detached from the religious persecution he was facing all his life. the author definitely did this to demonstrate how adam received the peace he needed. #laylit20

@EniolaAramide6 it really depends on the situation. with fiona, she seems to act in the moment and her professionalism cape is torn with her relationship with adam. she only feels hints of regret or fear after they are no longer
together, but with her over-stepping her boundry helped #laylit20

@zhack999 McEwan definitely uses music as an rare outlet to express Fiona’s true emotions. as a woman and judge, she makes tough decisions and has to appear strong so music, being a more calming, soft expression form, helps her express what she cannot otherwise #laylit20

@litwithlayton alongside fiona’s lack of consistency in her relationships, adam is also probably experiencing a revelation after his ‘newfound’ life leading him to search for nee bonds as well beginning with the woman that saved his life. so this makes stuff happen in the moment ! #laylit20

@sydnopsis i think they are both satisfied in detaching each other from each other’s lives, because in the beginning of the chapter fiona was relieved that jack was no longer saying “he loved her” (139). although the two may experience mini flashbacks to good times...#laylit20
