I’d argue that private equity is even more guilty than Amazon. Yes foot traffic to stores are down but people will still go to physical stores. Private equity firms oftentimes took over perfectly fine retail stores and stripped them down to the studs because that’s how they got paid. They made more money bankrupting stores than they did revitalizing them. To me, that’s the real culprit of the decline of American mall retail chains.
