I'm a seasoned (that means: old) network geek; I enjoy FPS gaming, driving on the race track and, well, working!
Big guns, fast cars, and fast computers.
Follow-up: I got mine yesterday. This is my first HMD and first VR experience, so pardon the fanboi'ism, but: HOLY SHIT! @RobertsSpaceInd knocked it out of the park with the VR visuals in #StarCitizen that just can't properly be displayed or explained in a YouTube video. I was EVA'ing around Seraphim before calling it quits, I looked up and saw Yela off in the distance. It was right there for me to reach out and grab. I could see its curvature in 3D, the sunlight from Stanton reflecting off of it, and even its terminator. All from Seraphim.
And yes, I can wear my fat Sennheiser cans with the DA, so that's a relief. Downside of the DA is the backstrap for me isn't as comfortable as I'd like. I know they're working on a comfort strap that goes over the top of the head... some day.
@Morphologis Hey Morph, mine's been shipped and am twiddling my thumbs waiting. Question: have you at least tried to wear it with your cans on your head? Workie/no workie?
Force USA C20 assembly is FINALLY DONE! My friend Patrick helped me do two of the three really hard parts: getting the actual frame up, and the 600lbs of weight plates attached. The third really hard part was getting the Smith machine upright attached; my neighbor came over and helped with that (took us 30 seconds).
Big, YOOOOGE thanks to Alex of https://t.co/57s95CNszO for his awesome assembly video. It helped TONS!
What you're seeing here is a case of factory assembly fuckage. This metal arm on the top of the ForceUSA C20 has a nice metal or plastic cover plate to show off their "cornerstone" motif on the product. The problem is that the left piece (which is what you're looking at) has the right side's cover riveted onto it. It's upside down, and looking closely you'll see a hole next to the "Force USA" label that does not align with the hole in the metal arm.
Given the price I paid for this monster, stuff like this just shouldn't be happening. It's case of cheap Chinese assembly on an otherwise incredibly sturdy piece of equipment. I'm not going to ask for a return because it's already bolted up, weighs a ton, and would be a cantankerous pain in the ass to remove. So a drill and a round metal file what's next. And I'll just have to deal with the upside down label on that side.
@OlliHull 750m long. That's how big this monster is going to be. At least based on the model Grim (StarJump dude) has. It's YOOOOGE! And yeah, I'll be getting one. Or two. Or .. some. ;-)
Hey @TheTacticalBrit: the half ton crate with the gym (minus the weight plates, they're a separate crate!) Second pic is one of the articulating arms that weighs 15-20lbs or so.
This is what happens when the fine folks at @RLCarriers don't actually listen to me when I say, "Please do NOT try to deliver the freight using an 18-wheeler, because my road is an 18-wheeler roach motel. The truck will check in, but it won't check out."
I feel sorry for the truck driver as he had no idea what he was getting himself into and showed up at my front door in the 18-wheeler. Then proceeded to get stuck trying to get out because, well, there's just NOT ENOUGH ROOM.
Fortunately the wrecker service wasn't too far away and they used some heavy duty equipment to yoink the truck out and get him going again.
@NancyMace@NancyMace Any chance I could convince you to, maybe, move to Virginia, run for Gov here, and do the same thing you're planning for South Carolina? ;-)
@CoxHelp A tree knocked your cable line down on Friday along with snapping two telelphone poles. @Verizon has already replaced the poles, but the cable line is still on the ground. We need you folks to roll a truck ASAP please.
@NickJFreitas If I hadn't just finished paying my mortgage off last July, I'd be seriously reconsidering staying here in VA.
