There have been a number of DCs recently involving players registered with multiple clubs or not being cleared from the last club before registering with a new club.

These cases almost always involve a player registered on MYSAFA and one or more registrations outside MYSAFA.

A single, national registration platform is intended to prevent double registration & improper clearance issues, as well as ensure that clubs that train players who go on to turn pro are compensated by the letter of the FIFA RSTP, via the newly established FIFA Clearing House.

So… why do FIFA’s regulations matter?

SAFA Statutes make clear that FIFA regulations – and specifically the RSTP – are the law of the (football) land in SA. Article 5.1 states clearly that the status of players in SA must be governed by SAFA in accordance with the FIFA RSTP.

MYSAFA is therefore the only “electronic player registration system” in SA, as described in the FIFA RSTP.

What does that mean for clubs caught in the middle of this unnecessarily complex system? I don’t know. I’m only reading the regs.

In other words, the only player registrations in SA that matter to FIFA are those captured on MYSAFA. If you play 5-a-side, pub leagues, casual pickup leagues… super! FIFA just doesn’t recognise those leagues or registrations.
