500,000 names have been purged from the Alabama Voter roll– are you one of them? Check out slide two for steps you can take to make sure you're able to vote in the next election. 🗳️
"Expanding this coverage to more families means better healthcare options for everyone, hope for rural medical care, and healthier babies," Dr. Max Rogers of Mobile writes in @aldotcom. #alpolitics#CoverAlabama https://t.co/xMfgvwESnR
Only a third of eligible voters turned out to vote in Alabama for the 2022 midterms, ranking us the 5th lowest in turnout nationwide. It’s no wonder folks don’t feel represented by their leaders in Alabama– they aren’t voting for them. 🧵

All politics is local. It’s important that we remember what’s on the ballot in 2024 in Alabama and beyond this election cycle. When we’re equipped with information, we garner the power of our collective voice.
This November, Alabamians have an opportunity to make their voices heard– and we aren't just talking about the presidential race.
Make sure you're ready to vote at the link in our bio and don't miss your chance to make your voice heard!
Transphobia, misogyny and good old plain racism. For many athletes, not fitting into arbitrary gender norms creates this whirling dervish of bigotry, harassment and abuse.
ICYMI: LDF client Mayor Patrick Braxton of Newbern, AL defeated efforts by white ousted town officials to block him from assuming office. Thanks to the settlement we secured Newbern, which is over 80% Black, will have its first election in nearly 60 years.
Sonya Massey, a Black woman, who contacted the police to get help, was executed by a white male police officer, in her home because she told him, “I rebuke you in the name of Jesus”. Now, praying for protection can get a Black person executed in America.
“I rebuke you in the name….”
There is something about the name of Jesus. Sonya Massey’s last words echo through our spirits and hearts today as we lift her name to heaven’s front door and God welcomes her home.
You are the pride of Donna and James Wilburn, the motherly comfort for Malachi and Jeanette, and the reminder that life is precious, like the violets that sway in the wind in the grass of Springfield, Illinois. Your resting place has awakened a story that far too often we hear. Hashtags that come with memorial anniversaries and no changes to the law. Questions are left unanswered, and what-ifs stir in circles.
How do we protect ourselves against those called to serve? Why does the beauty of Black skin become a target for brutality?
May the unison of our voices ascend to the mountaintop and dip into the valleys until the truth is spoken and justice is given. Rest well; we will carry the fight from here.
Sonya Massey, We Exalt Your Name. Asé. 🕊️
By addressing Alabama's voter turnout problem, we aren't just trying to push folks to vote in the presidential election– we are hoping to encourage and equip Alabamians to show up to the polls and elect officials who affect our everyday lives. https://t.co/6bQC2kxb52
Alabama has a voter turnout problem. In the '22 midterms, only 37% of voters turned out to vote, ranking AL 5th lowest in turnout nationwide. It’s no wonder folks don’t feel represented by their leaders– they aren’t voting for them.
But the ACLU of AL is working to change that.
Fighting censorship is as patriotic as you can get, and in Alabama, we know it's important to uphold our freedom of speech. We support Alabamians across the state defending public libraries and keeping books on our shelves. 🧵👇
Tonight’s debate should historically be referenced as “The White Man’s Last Stand”.
This evening should serve as a reminder to catalyze us…if we can see this country through to 2028 (inshallah 🙏🏾). #PresidentialDebate2024
May we remember that the power of student-led organizing has always been a driving force of change and progress in this nation.
"...no one of us can be free until everybody is free..."
The nation's eyes are on Alabama again– and not for anything good. With the passing of SB129, Alabama becomes the 9th state to enact a DEI ban. https://t.co/OBN2DYNF2w
SB129 is a public defunding of student groups, associations, programs, and state and municipal offices. Like so many other bills we continue to see that target our communities, it will have longstanding and immediate consequences.
A new Alabama law banning diversity, equity and inclusion offices, programming and training in public colleges and other state agencies has been signed by Gov. Kay Ivey and will go into effect this fall.
But what does that mean? Read what the law says ➡️ https://t.co/NUtpr06gRV
We hope this gift serves as a clarion call on the importance of investing in the Deep South. We owe this achievement to our incredible staff, community partners, and those who believe in our collective vision for progress in Alabama.

Tuesday's social media outage didn't just affect our scrolling habit, it hindered our election protection work.
Social media is a critical tool for non-partisan voting rights organizations to get information out about polling locations and hours. 🧵👇https://t.co/a1SZ26OU53
ANOTHER death in an Alabama prison & the body was returned to family MISSING ORGANS. A mortician hired by Kelvin Moore's family discovered most of his internal organs had been removed. They plan to sue.
