NEW: A UNICEF coordinated SMART survey conducted between May 31 and June 15 2026 found acute malnutrition in Gaza’s children under 5 at around 0.5%, ranging from 0.2% to 0.8% across governorates.

The rate is below Gaza’s prewar baseline of 0.8%, far below the WHO emergency threshold of 5%, and places Gaza in IPC Acute Malnutrition Phase 1 (Acceptable).

By comparison, reported rates are around 3% in Egypt, 0.6% to 2.4% in Jordan, 5%+ in Syria, and 4% to 6% in Bulgaria.

A few thoughts on Arday:

1. I'm not going to formally diagnose Arday, but he's got narcissistic character traits. Narcissists are not always malign like Trump, they can be charming people with other, more positive character traits.

2. Much of the blame goes to the people who fawned over Arday and promoted him without doing their due diligence. None of this stuff was hard to validate or verify. If his dishonesty had been revealed earlier, he could have been discreetly shunted off into a position more suited to his abilities, such as a teacher at a comprehensive.

3. If you ever wanted confirmation the humanities are a woke echo chamber, boy howdy here it is. Thousands of people agreed to rely on recommendations from people they trusted because they shared the same "right-on" worldview. Half of these people put "critical" in their book and course titles ("Critical Whiteness Studies", "Critical Perspectives on Fat Sex"), but of course no criticism was ever allowed of Arday. Cambridge's disastrous decision to immediately leap to his defense was the crudest kind of groupthink.

4. The person who revealed this massive fraud, @nathancofnas, should be receiving humble thanks and plaudits for taking on literally the entire British educational establishment and the most bloodthirsty UK media-law sharks. Instead, he's either dismissed or attacked as a crank because he holds some right-wing views. Yet gadflies like Cofnas belong in academia, because they will articulate take-no-prisoners critiques of positions they oppose, forcing *fundamental* debates and sharpening arguments on both sides. As shown by this episode itself.

5. And to my German readers -- if you don't think there are 100 Jason Ardays in Germany, I have bad news for you. The only difference is that nobody in the German academic or media establishment wants to expose them.

Zohran Mamdani is launching five government-run grocery stores in NYC with 30% discounts on essentials funded by $70 million of taxpayer money.

Sounds wonderful. Cheap food for areas that need it.

Who could object?Anyone who understands the economics, history and game theory.

Here’s why kind-sounding ideas can be dangerous ideas:

1. It’s a marketing campaign, not a food policy. Five stores won’t feed a city of 8.5 million. They exist to produce a spectacle - a photo of Mamdani holding a loaf of cheap bread and a grin that says “see socialism works.” The stores are the ad but the the product he’s selling is collectivism and more state control… which doesn’t work.

2. The maths is predatory. Grocers run on 1–3% margins. Mamdani is discounting 30% … over ten times the entire profit margin of potential competitors. Tax payers fund rent, property tax and supply and offer no penalty for a business that’s losing money. That kills any hope of competition that would naturally transform demand and supply dynamics for real.

3. It corrupts price signals and creates an arbitrage economy. Prices are data. They tell farmers what to grow, distributors what to ship, entrepreneurs where to invest. Subsidise the price and you corrupt the data ... and create a guaranteed profit for anyone with a shopping trolley. People will stockpile non-perishables, clear the shelves, and resell at market price, pocketing the taxpayer subsidy as personal margin. Venezuela ran this exact experiment: price-controlled stores bred a professional class of resellers, and the subsidised goods ended up on the black market anyway. The discount doesn’t reach the needy. It reaches the fastest to grab and resell the stock.

4. It’s proven to fail at scale. Kansas City tried a municipal grocery store and it burned through millions and ended in empty shelves. The Soviet Union tried it with an entire nation. In 1989, Boris Yeltsin visited an ordinary supermarket in Texas and was so staggered by the abundance available to regular working people that he later admitted it shattered his faith in the Soviet system. A random capitalist grocery store did more to end communism than any weapon ever built. The well sticked grocery-store is a miracle of capitalism not state control.

5. There’s no feedback loop. When a private store fails, it closes. When a government store fails, it gets a bigger budget. A failure becomes the argument for more funding. Losses don’t kill a failed experiment in a state run program… They feed bigger budgets. Watch and be prepared to see the $70m budget become $100m in no time.

And the punchline: New York just published a tender asking private operators to actually run these stores. Even the socialist experiment needs capitalists to work the tills. The actual profits will go to government contractors- watch as Accenture suddenly becomes a leading grocery story Labour hire company.

Markets aren’t the enemy of ordinary people. They’re the greatest anti-poverty machine ever discovered. Break the machine and everyone eats worse - especially the people you promised to help.

The only problem is that by the time it proves to be anothet failed socialist initiative there will have been millions of Tik Tok views of Mamdani pretending it works and spreading socialist propaganda to young people who are weaponised against their own interests.

The latest Lysova (2024) study finds 53% of partner violence is bilateral, 31% is female to male, and 17% is male to female.

Lysova replicated this finding SIXTY FOUR times, with ~185,000 people, across the US, UK, Australia, NZ, and Canada, (and 'others'); AND within large population samples, small community samples, university and college samples, clinical samples, and high school and middle school samples.

The research is done.

If you still think abuse is "gendered", then you are either:

a) statistically illiterate,
b) morally bankrupt,
c) have some kind of financial interest,
d) scared to admit the truth.

Reconstruction has scarcely begun in Gaza, only about 5% of rubble has been cleared. Almost none of the pledged aid to Gaza is yet flowing. The key impediment: donors (including Arab donors) require Hamas disarmament as a precondition for aid - and Hamas won't do it.

Humanitarian improvement is held hostage by Hamas, which has put its own dominance ahead of its subject population's human needs.

The Palestinian dilemma is that while their political movements are very successful at stoking anti-Israel odium, those same political movement's feel almost zero concern for the people they purport to speak for.

Israel has many enemies. The Palestinians have few friends. True friends would push for Hamas to lay down its arms so reconstruction can begin.

The strategy of "resistance" has failed again and again since the Arab Revolt of 1936. It's time for a strategy of "Take the deal even if you don't love it because it's better than living in tents waiting for the next war to turn out better for you than the last war did."

What do all of these people have in common?

A congressman tied to a collapsing campaign. A pop star drowning in lawsuits from her own dancers. A band nobody had heard of. An activist the press stopped covering. An actress dropped by her own agency.

Every single one of them found the same exit: attack the world's only Jewish state, and watch the cameras come back.
It's the oldest trick in the book, and we keep falling for it. A fading star discovers a "conscience" at the exact moment a career requires one, and we call it courage instead of what the data says it is: a comeback strategy.

I wrote the full essay on this, with the numbers, because the numbers are damning. One influencer went from 417K followers to 2.5 million in six months. His own words: "I do everything for the clout."

None of them actually care. That's the part that should make you angriest. Not one of these people spent a day thinking about Palestinians before their relevance depended on it, and not one will spend a day thinking about them after.

The saddest part? Palestinians are being used as pawns by people chasing engagement. They deserve better than becoming someone's rebrand. And Jews deserve better than being the price of admission.

So she ignored Israel’s offers to deliver it and went viral for getting arrested instead.

Nick Kristof “wanted” to help imprisoned Palestinians.

So he wrote a story based on Hamas-linked sources about “dog rapes.”

Ro Khanna “wanted” to stop settler violence.

So it appears he attempted to enter a restricted area without proper coordination and security officials asked him to turn back.

Each one then spun the fallout into a viral moment of victimhood.

I wonder if what they wanted wasn’t to help Palestinians after all, but to exploit them to get famous.

Intelligence assessments on Hamas in Gaza, from the Israeli military and Western security officials based in Jerusalem and Tel Aviv, continue to track the group’s preparations for its next war with Israel. Since the ceasefire, Hamas has been rebuilding its tunnel network and manufacturing hundreds of anti‑tank and anti‑personnel IEDs, RPG warheads, and other munitions. Reporting from multiple outlets, along with diplomatic cables, some of which I have seen, indicates that Hamas is recruiting new fighters and providing select cadres with specialized training from surviving, battle‑hardened operatives.

Hamas has reconstituted portions of its forces and restored a functioning command hierarchy capable of sustaining a prolonged fight. Its leadership is applying lessons learned, studying perceived weaknesses in Israeli tactics, and preparing for a multi‑month confrontation. The conclusion is unavoidable: regardless of public pledges, political messaging, or whatever post‑ceasefire process emerges, Hamas has no interest in disarmament, no intention of relinquishing control of Gaza, and no willingness to dismantle its extensive militant and terror infrastructure. Israeli officials are weighing options to confront Hamas, but all indications point to strong opposition from the Trump administration to any renewed military campaign and pressure to preserve the status quo.

A return to war in Gaza has always been an eventuality. The only plausible path to dislodging Hamas is separating civilians from the group by establishing genuinely safe zones free of militants and weapons infrastructure, with access controlled through vetting to prevent operatives from blending in with civilians. Without this shift, Israel risks repeating the old strategy; one that inflicts severe harm on Palestinian civilians while allowing Hamas to exploit their suffering and preserve its capabilities. Israel now controls nearly two‑thirds of the Gaza Strip, much of it empty. This territory beyond the “Yellow Line” must be used to shelter Palestinian civilians away from Hamas and under the protection of a new, credible security apparatus such as the International Stabilization Force or a newly created Gaza police force.

I never realized it. But I can think of no other explanation for this comment.

He’s coming after Israel for a feature it shares with Jordan Egypt, Lebanon, Iran, Kuwait, Qatar, Yemen, Libya, Afghanistan, and Saudi Arabia. A feature Israel inherited from the Ottoman Empire.

In other words, he’s coming after the most Muslim thing about us.

He’s also mostly wrong. Israel does have civil marriage, just not conducted domestically. It even has gay marriage with full rights of inheritance, end of life decisions, adoption. Again, you just have to get the actual marriage certificate somewhere else. Until 2014, Israel offered more robust marriage rights to gay couples than America.

Since my wife and I don’t like the state rabbinate, we are civilly married overseas. Israelis often take the short puddle-jumper flight to Cyprus to marry there, and in the waiting room at Larnaca City Hall they meet Lebanese couples doing the same thing for the same reason.

And these laws are far stricter in Saudi, Kuwait, Qatar, Yemen, Libya, Afghanistan, Iran, Egypt, and Jordan.

Oh, and in many places — including Iran, Yemen, Afghanistan and Iraq — marriage with very young girls is permitted and takes place routinely. They claim that’s what sharia law demands. Tens of thousands of girls under 15 are married to older men every year in Iran.

So if Mehdi cares about secular or civil marriage, he must be routinely outraged by the failure of the Muslim world in this regard. He must be questioning the wisdom and truth of an Islam that would lead to such benighted, antidemocratic outcomes.

Because otherwise, he’s just pretending to care about marriage as an excuse to hate Jews. And I can’t believe — won’t believe — that that’s what’s happening here.

And once you’ve finished your embarrassing love letter to Egypt @Craig_Foster , you can ask them why they completely sealed their border shut with Gaza during the entire duration of the war that Hamas started; why they did not let a single one of your precious Palestinian civilians into the vast Sinai peninsula to escape the war; and why they essentially trapped them all in an active war zone.

In fact, while you’re at it, you can ask all your favourite Arab dictatorships why none of them took any Palestinian civilians in to escape the war like Europe did with Ukrainians.
